While far from impossible a job like this is a bit of a nightmare without a lift, I changed a clutch on a 944 s2 while sat on axle stands, believe me you just don't need it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone done one? Difficult? Thinking this is my next big spend over winter and wondering if I should attempt, i'm fairly competent with my hands... :thumb:
Arm yourself with all the torque settings, allow a whole day and go for it!
I would do the RMS at the same time but you'll need the tool to seat it properly.
Don't see why not...do you gave access to a ramp,or will it be up on axle stands?
I'd be tempted to stick with official OE parts though - thye savings will come from reduced labour charge, but best not to scrimp on parts...

A 2 post ramp is a must on this job aswel as a decent hydralic transmission stand.
The more I'm researching this the more I'm thinking not to bother with the DIY. By the time I buy a transmission stand/jack, the transmission jack adapter and various tools it will be nearing the labour cost at a good Indy. Plus it would be on axle stands which I believe is a PITA...
Have a few options regarding actual parts:
Sachs standard kit = ££
Sachs performance kit = £££
Sachs performance kit with spring plate and LWFW = ££££
I'm hearing the Sachs torsion plate isn't available for the 3.6L??? So maybe not the answer.
Getting labour quotes now, have varied from 10-12hours at £60/hour inc RMS & IMS right down to £300+Vat (all at reputable Indys). Even had an OPC quote of £400+Vat + extra 60min for RMS&IMS if needed...
Porsche quote workshop time as 11.3 hours for the GT3 clutch...
I'll be going to Jaz or somewhere similar when I do mine...don;t fancy 11.3 hours at OPC rates
Hi
Im thinking of doing mine myself and changing the flywheel for a single mass unit whilst im in there.
Is anyone else using a lightened flywheel? if so, how does the car perform with it on.
I was quoted £1400 from my OPC for a clutch which i didnt think was that bad after you have priced up clutches.
Andrew
That's about £400 too high, but then that's because your getting the Sachs clutch kit in a nice Porsche branded box...
The Porsche kit is £426.48+Vat
Sachs kit (minus Porsche box) £225+Vat
