Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The previous owner has full PCentre service records every half a yr and the fuel pump was replaced due to wear.
Leading evidence: 'Replace due' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace due' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can a 996 TT tipronic to have the overrev rev2 records in the DME? The strange thing is that when I kept my right foot to the ground in my previous 986 Boxster, the rev needle did reach slightly over the redline by 100-200 rpm. Did that mean the car was overreved?
I am looking to buy a 01 996 TT What are the normal wear and tear items on one? The previous owner has full PCentre service records every half a yr and the fuel pump was replaced due to wear.
For mods, his car has a RPI exhaust and a remmap. What should I look out for before I buy it.
Chers
No - a tiptronic will not record type 2 over-revs. Type 2's can be recorded on a manual by a premature downshift, but the tiptronic won't allow you to do that.
For the Turbo:
RANGE 1, 6750-7250
RANGE 2, 7250 up
Firstly I'd advise you getting a proper inspection that includes reading the ECU for rev range data.
In terms of you bouncing off the limiter this will register on a REV range 1 counter, but thats the limiter just doing its job so I wouldn't personally be concerned with any in this range.
....interestingly I got my 997 TIP C4S to redline then cut-out/splutter(not upshift) when in manual/sports mode just as though it was a manual
Never been back to that "zone" again but it was a tad interesting as I thought the 997 auto-upshifted....but maybe not in sports manual mode???
Thanks for all the advice. i will get a proper inspection.
Exactly, I had the car in the sport manual mode (forgot what it was called) in my boxster, it appeared it didnt want to change up at the redline and went slightly over it before finally changing up.
What are the more expensive items to fix on a used 996tt? I will make sure that those will be fixed first.
Cheers
V interesting. The 997 DMEs record different rev ranges to the 996. They are:
997 Carrera
RANGE 1, 7300-7500
RANGE 2, 7500-7700
RANGE 3, 7700-7900
RANGE 4, 7900-8400
RANGE 5, 8400-9500
RANGE 6, 9500 up
Pretty much the same as a regular 996 - brakes, rads, coolant tanks, etc, but add to that turbo wastegate rattles, heat shield rattles, and the like.
As has been said - get an inspection - see the other current post for the sorts of things it can reveal.
