Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
I just need a little bit of advice before I sign on the dotted line for a 996 Turbo. I am looking at purchasing one from Portiacraft in Mill Hill, North West London. Just wondering whether anyone has had any dealings with them as I would welcome any comments.
FInally. I am strongly considering chipping the standard 420 BHP to get it up to around 450-460. Does anyone know if this is going to put to much strain on the engine and will it affect the lifespan of any other parts i.e. clutch etc?
I am more desperate to get my hands on a Turbo than anything else. Can't wait for 4 wheels to put a smile on my face!!!!
Cheers
Nick
hi,
i bought a car (997 C2S) from them a year ago. its had a few minor problems and they've been pretty good about fixing them. sometimes free and sometimes just the cost of the part.
i've found the mechanics to be particularly helpful and knowledgable.
Cheers
Pav
welcome
460 is no problem for these engines- in fact if you look on 6speed and rennlist they are good for 550 without the need for internal mods although you'll need bigger turbos to get you there.
My advice would be to get the car tip top (brakes, clutch, rads etc) before mapping then do your research on the best person to do it. (lots of threads on here)
420 is more than adequate as you get used to the vehicle I can assure you.
Visited them 2 months ago looking to buy but they didn't have the model I was after in stock. Seemed very professional and friendly and a guy at work who apparantly knows about these things says they have a good reputation.
Portiacraft get very mixed reviews, and for every good one there seems to be a bad one. Do a search on Pistonheads>Porsche and you'll see what I mean.
I only have one brief experience. My car was serviced by them before I bought it. The invoice says "12000 Mile Service". No other details whatsoever, and I mean absolutely nothing, other than the price.
So I 'phoned them to ask what oil they had used. I heard the chap on the 'phone shout through to someone "What oil do we use in a Turbo?". "Synthetic" came the reply. "What brand and viscosity?" I asked. "Dunno" was the answer.
I changed the oil and filter immediately myself.
