Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

We all know the OEM cupholders are generally terrible for large cups and bottles. I play a lot of volleyball and often have my drink bottle with me after games and my wife routinely takes her large Yeti -style mug with her everywhere. I have seen companies that make a universal cup holder for Porsches and like, but they're $50+ dollars and remind of the 1980s cupholders that mounted to the inside of the window frame. LOL. I wanted something a little more stealthy, compact, and cheaper. So, I took a cheap $7 bicycle water bottle cage, a $2 piece of galvanized 6" X 1" mending plate (readily available at your hardware store), a small nut/bolt/washer, a piece of 3M heavy duty tape, some felt tape, and black paint to create a simple, cheap, and easy to install/remove floor-mounted cup holder. I cut the mending plate to about 4" in length and bent it to around 5 degrees to match the contour of the center console tunnel so that the cup holder would sit tight against the tunnel. I then used one of the drilled holes in the mending to bolt the plate and cage together. I then scuffed everything with some light duty sandpaper followed by a cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. I then spray painted everything black. Once dry, I added some felt tape to the top of the mending plate to keep it from scratching inside of the center console plastic and some 3M tape to the backside of the plate to create some additional friction on the tunnel carpet to further hold the cupholder in place. Once complete, I pulled the lower edge of the console plastic panel back slightly and sandwiched the felt-covered mending plate between the panel and carpet. Done. Using a cage style water bottle cage allows you to easily bend it to form the shape needed for whatever you might need to secure. The way I have mine is expanded enough to fit the wife's mug, my water bottle (bicycle size), and a typical medium/large size cup from a coffee shop with no risk of it toppling over even when driving some aggressively. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_192731_148f606e41d9e538f3dd6de739070be803665dff.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_195607_99c48eded41a62ae86c72ce892e2e4660a82a86f.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_195622_c59c7d4213f3b930934e181b15c7870b45ad29c0.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_233007_327d763dcc52d4b1dc30526b2cef73d7ff0509c8.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_233125_b91767ed7f866828988bd4dde8b57459e6176ec2.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_233129_32bb214a50330bc480c7a398664f375ff682b02f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/********.com-vbulletin/1500x2000/20230114_233403_1d6e9ec9ec41bf34a3443af4f06b8cff2352194c.jpg
