I have a 2011 Boxster 987.2 with the six-speed manual transmission and 2.9l engine. I'd like to change the transmission oil in the near future while doing some other work. Seems simple enough, but for the life of me I cannot find the factory specification for the transmission lubricant. It's not in the owner's manual. I have a partial service manual, but it just calls for "Porsche-Approved" fluids. Not much help. There is no shortage of recommendations from the parts sellers, but I'd sure like to see some answers from the factory. Viscosity? GL5? Limited-slip additives? Any ideas?

I’ve done this on a ‘99 Boxster , ‘02 Boxster , ‘08 Boxster and my current ‘11 Boxster , and each time I used the Porsche fluid due to the fact it has specific additives for certain Porsche unique metals in the gearbox. This is despite the boxes being assembled by other manufactures (Getrag, ZF, etc) for Porsche .

I'm going to second that. I have a 981 , but when I changed my manual transmission oil, I too used the Porsche branded 75w90. Purchased from Suncoast at a reasonable price.

My local Porsche dealership only does the 20 litre containers of Porsche fluid. They recommended the Redline 75w90NS and had the ability to order it through them.
