Suggestion

I would disconnect when not in use, battery drain may not appear significant however there are a number of electronic systems which run in the back ground when the car is not in use, all of which consume power having something else plugged in will only result in a flat battery.

Suggestion

I'd be interested in which FM transmitter your using and how successful it is, the one I had been using (now found it's way to to the recycling centre) suffered from a lot of interference despite the manufacturers claims.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This may be a silly question, but any comments/help gratefully received. I have an fm transmitter for my ipod. It plugs into it cigarette lighter which in the facelift 996 is permanently live. Is this going to cause problems with potential flat batteries if the device is left plugged in? The transmitter transmits (as you may expect) and charges the ipod. Thanks.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply John. It is a Gear 4 unit. I don't have the code ref for it here but if you're interested I can get it. It seems prety good and has new "Follow Me" technology that claims that if it encounters interference it will move the transmitter onto the next frequency and retune the car radio to suit. It hasn't done this yet so we will see. It displays the artist on the transmitter and the track on the radio head unit - pretty clever! I use the car ever day so I guess I will be okay but will discontect over longer periods of non use. That is unless anyone advises otherwise.
