Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am by no means an expert on this but I believe the PCM2 was fitted from model year 2003 on...More importantly the pic is definately NOT PCM 1 (SIM card slot is the obvious one), not sure though what the difference is between 2 and 2.1
Leading evidence: 'Install from model year 2003' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Also, my nephew has an early 997, and is fitted with PCM 2.1.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone provide pictures of the PCM1, PCM2 and PCM2.1 headunits to clarify a point that I am having with an installer.
I have a 2004 996 C4S and Porsche tell me it has a PCM2 installed. The installer is telling me that its a PCM1 and that it is not compatible with the Mobridge ipod kit I recently bought. He also tells me that there is no mute function on the unit so he cant wire in the Parrot bluetooth kit into the stereo.
The attached pic is the unit I have in my car.

Hope thats of some help, I am sure someone else will be along soon to correct/add to info.
Good luck with the installer
2004 will be PCM2.0. PCM2.1 was never fitted to the 996. It was introduced on the 987 & 997, and has a separate DVD navigation drive in the front boot.
PCM 1 First Generation (8 bit) - 1998 to Dec 2000 996/986 Boxster
PCM 1 Second Generation (16 Bit) - Jan 2001 to Aug 2002 996/986 Boxster
PCM 2.0 - Sept 02 onwards in 996/Boxster
PCM 2.0 - (CD Based) Cayenne introduction until Aug 2004
PCM 2.1 - (DVD Based) Cayenne Sept 2004 on, and all 987/997.
PCM 3.0 – 987/997 Gen 2 – Sept 2008 (MY2009) 0n
PCM2.1 was rolled out with the 2006MY. Any 997 built before this has PCM2.0 (if fitted as an option). Externally (in the 997) both units look the same but there is a difference in functionality (partial post code entry being one of them on PCM 2.1).
The photo posted by the OP shows a PCM2.0 unit.

I don't think you are right about that Maxie. The image below was taken from the latest PET. Also, my nephew has an early 997, and is fitted with PCM 2.1.
I don't believe all "997's" were fitted with PCM 2.1 either for some reason. As Maxie says I'm under the impression the later 997's (2006 onwards) got 2.1, which included mp3 playback etc....
Hi Richard, as with any issue, I always stand to be corrected and maybe you are right in this instant. It does say in your table, however, that the PCM2.1 unit was fitted to the 997 between years 2005 and 2008. Sure enough for the C16 spec cars, the late 2005 models (ie MY2006) would have PCM2.1 (where specified as an option). I am still sure that an early 2005 car would have PCM2.0.
If anyone on here has a 2005 (or even 2004) MY 997 car with PCM, can they confirm whether partial post-code entry is accepted?

I recall a thread on here where someone with a 997 had PCM 2.0 and couldn't upgrade various Sat Nav functions because they were not running 2.1. :dont know:
Let me see if I can find it.
Not having much luck. However, it looks like the 2005 cars came with PCM 2.0. A simple software update takes it to 2.1 and you can get the software update with the Sat Nav software. My MY2006 car came with 2.1. Whilst typing this I still remember someone finding out that it wasn't just a software update as there was a hardware difference between PCM2.0 and 2.1 when supplied with a 997. :dont know:
