Then I used rust kill, a thinned down primer coat with a brush, rubbed it down with 20 /400 grade sand paper, then brush painted the inner arch metal strip with three coats.

I’ve just been inspecting my car following a successful MOT but sadly find some small but potential rust problems on the rear wheel arch lips due to stone damage.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I’ve just been inspecting my car following a successful MOT but sadly find some small but potential rust problems on the rear wheel arch lips due to stone damage. The fronts seem ok though. I don’t have access to a dry garage where I might attempt a diy so wonder if anyone knows of a reliable/trustworthy business in the Chester area who might assist? Thanks. Stuart.

POST 2Original post

Depends on colour of car but touching wheel arches in can be expensive. I had the colour mixed up myself . removed the wheel arch liner Rubbed the wheel arch inner edges down, after first applying masking tape along the leading outer edge. Then I used rust kill, a thinned down primer coat with a brush, rubbed it down with 20 /400 grade sand paper, then brush painted the inner arch metal strip with three coats. 800, 1200 and finally 2000 grade wet and dry sandpaper and patience. A bit of G60 cutting compound and the finish was better by far than the factory with probably triple the thickness for future proofing. shines like a new boot.
