Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You may have to reassociate fob with alarm ECU (check your manual for this and also battery guidance) - involves pressing the button whilst key blade is in door lock or ignition (sorry, forget which - check manual) .

As the remote uses a rolling code (new code every lock cycle) if the remote sender has been activated more than 256 times and less than 1024 times with the receiver out of range or while the vehicle battery is disconnected the unit must be resynchronized as follows:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Help - new and proud owner of 911 carrera 1998, superb car. On receipt of car issued 2 remote keys, one with and one without battery. The one with battery opened and closed car central locking and turned on and off alarm. Decided to put new batteries in both alarms and now can not operate doors or alarm. LED lights up on both keys when pressed. When I try to open door with just key - sets off alarm. Anyone with any knowledge?

POST 2Original post

You can stop the alarm by putting key in ignition within 10 secs etc. You may have to reassociate fob with alarm ECU (check your manual for this and also battery guidance) - involves pressing the button whilst key blade is in door lock or ignition (sorry, forget which - check manual) . Reset by manually unlocking the car door and wilst the key is still in the door, press the button, lock/unlock button. This re-synchs the electronics if it is time that has caused the car to forget the remote. As the remote uses a rolling code (new code every lock cycle) if the remote sender has been activated more than 256 times and less than 1024 times with the receiver out of range or while the vehicle battery is disconnected the unit must be resynchronized as follows: - Switch on the ignition (ignition key must have the correct transponder). - Switch off the ignition. - Remove the key and press the remote sender button within 6 seconds after the ignition key has been removed The activation counter will then be reset to zero. If the fault lies with the remote, you can reset the remote fob's chip by inserting the button battery in reverse (wrong way round) for a couple of seconds. (ie -+, +-)
