I test drove mine before the discs were replaced and it took a big shove on the pedal to stop the car.

I certainly won't be sleeping tonight - hell, I could barely sleep when I was first going to test drive the car!

Thanks for the tips - I test drove an Elise a few years back!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I'm picking up my 996 tomorrow, which I'm looking forward too.
I just wanted to see if there was a list of standard equipment that it should come with? For example, spare tyres, toolkits, etc.
Oh, and one more question - how hard should the brakes be on the 996? When I took it for a test run, I had to press quite hard on the brake pedal to get the car to stop. It didn't seem to struggle stopping, it just seemed like there was a lot of resistance from the brake pedal. Is that normal? (I'm only comparing it to other cars (non-sports) that I've driven.
Thanks!
If it is a Carrera 4 make sure you have the compressor that goes with the deflated space saver spare wheel... It's not much use to you without a means of inflating it first!
You should have the normal toolkit of course and make sure you have the locking wheel-nut if applicable. In the toolkit there should also be a little tool for removing the headlights - needed for bulb changes or switching to drive abroad.
Also make sure you have the code for the radio - it should be on a little card the size of a credit card. If your car has PCM (Porsche Sat Nav) you need two of those code cards (one for audio, one for sat nav).
The brakes sound perfectly normal to me - takes a bit of getting used to after over-servoed modern cars.
Bet you don't get much sleep tonight...
+1 To what Wattie said re equipment.
With regards to the brakes, they seem perfectly normal. Once you have got used to them you will think they are the best brakes ever. The only problem is that when you jump into a another carwith a soft pedal and over servo'd brakes you will almost throw yourself through the windscreen when you first stop.
Thanks for the replies, and the reassurance regarding the brakes.
I guess I should've mentioned, it's a C2 (facelift), and the spare tyre is a little difficult to miss!
I certainly won't be sleeping tonight - hell, I could barely sleep when I was first going to test drive the car!
Have you got any particular tips to using the brakes? Or is it simply just a matter of getting used to them?
As far as the brakes are concerned, it's just a case of getting used to them... But when you do, you'll hate the on/off switches of modern ordinary cars, with no pedal feel in them.
Another 'big up' for the brakes. When I use my wife's Audi I nearly put myself into the instrument panel as the brakes on it seem to be full on or full off. The Porsche brakes are much more under the driver's control. the lack of initial bite is nothing more than that.
By comparison my summer steed is an Elise and it has no servoes at all. That takes some getting used to!
I used to do 12k+ per year in mine. And no, it isnt really designed for it. By comparison to the Porsche it feels like a fairly cheap toy.
That said the steering would embarrass any car, 911 included, and the feel on the brakes is unmatched. Top chassis and amazing ability to jink around like a fly make it virtually unbeatable as a driver's car. Mine's a 97 car and is very light (720kg) tweaked to 190 bhp so it accelerates pretty sharpish too.
The turbo would bury it in most departments but for sheer driver input and feel the Elise is unmatched in my driving history.
On topic, the brakes on both are superb.
Well done Storm,
Shame about the weather today :nooo:
Does the car come with new brake discs ? I test drove mine before the discs were replaced and it took a big shove on the pedal to stop the car.
On new discs it was exactly the same for the first 100 or so miles !!!!
As everyone says, you'll get used to them !!!!!
