Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Install with a mercedes box' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'right thing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check gearbox oil level' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Ever since I brought the tip I've been trying to convince myself it was the right thing to do, so if I'm constantly having to justify it to myself ......

Suggestion
t's a tricky and messy job to check the level, but that would be the first thing to do.

Spoke to someone at Porsche who recommended disconnecting battery, reconnecting and switching ignition on for 1 minute, then off for one minute.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Apologies if this has been covered before, but searching on a blackberry is painful.
Just been out in the car, and when reversing into a space the car juddered and came to a halt, almost like I'd put the handbrake on. It then went again but kept juddering. There is also a sqeaking noise.
Left it for 20 minutes, then drove back to work in auto mode. I've noticed that in auto mode, going from second to third is very juddery, but all other gears seem OK.
The battery was disconnected over the weekend, and I had all the exhaust off the car and 4 bolts drilled out of the head. I suppose it is possible something was disturbed, but it drove fine to work this morning (25 miles).
There are no warning lights on.
HELP!!!!!!
OK, drive home a nightmare. Spoke to someone at Porsche who recommended disconnecting battery, reconnecting and switching ignition on for 1 minute, then off for one minute. Did that, but as drove out of car park still had same issues.
On the way home I noticed 2nd was playing up even more, then half way home I noticed I had lost second gear, engine just revs up. Stopping at junctions was a nightmare, as 1st juddered like mad, then I had to put it straight up to 3rd.
3rd, 4th and 5th are working absolutely fine.
What the hell is wrong with it!!!! :dont know:
t's a tricky and messy job to check the level, but that would be the first thing to do. You have to get the car in the air, remove the filler plug, and fill with ATF (the correct type) until it flows out. It all has to be done before the fluid temperature reaches about 45 degrees C.
It's a job for an indy.
Thanks
Had to go and fetch one of the kids, and on the way home it kicked into limp-home mode (flashing between D and 4), thank god, as I had some major hills to climb from standstill.
Booked into Porsche Leicester Wednesday morning. I'm still hopeful that it's electrical rather than mechanical :?
2 different indies have looked at it today - both have come to the same conclusion - gearbox is FUBAR. Looks like the clutch plates for 1st and 2nd have gone. Zentrum have changed the gearbox oil as a starter for 10, but made no difference.
Looking at upto a 2k bill for box to be re-conditioned. OOOOUUUUUCCCCHHH!!!!!!

Just been searching for similar posts and came up with this

I assume you are the same poster on RennTech? Déjà Vu?
You have the ZF gearbox in your car. 3.6 models were fitted with a Mercedes box.
It is pretty rare for them to fail in this way, but it does happen - as with any other manufacturer. I think you have just been very unlucky.
Yes, it was me on RennTech.
Yeah, lots of people have said failure is very rare on these boxes, but still at the back of my mind I keep thinking "should have brought a manual". Ever since I brought the tip I've been trying to convince myself it was the right thing to do, so if I'm constantly having to justify it to myself ......
Next 911 will defo be a manual.
...oh, and thanks for the advice on the model. Will help tomorrow with trying to find quote comparisons, although I think the Zentrum quote is about right.
I can't tell you if that's about right, but hopefully Mike at Sports and Classic will be along soon with an opinion. It might be worth having a word with him anyway.
