Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

However I can't seem to disconnect the wire connector that plugs into the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on top.

I only had to disconnect the wire plug from the sensor which was tricky to figure out.

I have a 997.1 with the x51 carbon fiber air box, and I am trying to change the air filters.

All I was doing was changing the two air filters which requires removal of the entire airbox from the engine bay.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, I feel like a dumba$$ for asking this, but after 15 minutes with no success, I figured it was off to the tech forums I go.
I have a 997.1 with the x51 carbon fiber air box, and I am trying to change the air filters. However I can't seem to disconnect the wire connector that plugs into the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on top. It seems to be cheap plastic, so I didn't want to force the issue. Anyone have any ideas? See attached picture. Thanks.
You see the button to be pressed perfectly on your picture !
Ob the right side of the plug. Just left of the right screw.
You have to press that button like crazy and push the plug _IN_ while you press the button.
Use the other hand to move the plug back and forth.
You'll be perfect when you did it 3rd time.....
I figured that tab had something to do with it which is why I was pressing that thing over and over again. Still no luck . . . the plug doesn't want to budge. I tried inserting small screw drivers, picks, anything I could think of.
Is the force really that great to get this thing off? Porsche engineers . . . go figure.
Well I finally figured it out. It's a 3-step process. You have to push down on the wire plug first (to relieve pressure on the side tab), then you push the side tab in, then you pull the wire plug off. Glad I didn't force it, because it's really on there. I can't imagine what a new one of these costs.
I left the MAF sensor in my particular airbox (X-51) . . . no need to remove it. All I was doing was changing the two air filters which requires removal of the entire airbox from the engine bay. I only had to disconnect the wire plug from the sensor which was tricky to figure out. It's one of those things that presents a challenge at first, but after you do it once, it's simple.
But you are correct. The security Torx bits are needed to remove the MAF if that is what you want to do.
