I recently got my 2.7 car back from the body-shop where they replaced the rear quarter-panel from a parking incident (thankfully I didn't pay for it).
Now I've noticed the following interesting points:
1) Stationary, engine on, pump the brake pedal repeatedly. There's a metalic rattling noise, like a heat-shield vibrating, from the rear-left quarter. Exactly around where the
PSE
's actuator is.
2) With SC/
PSE
on, under full throttle, some times there's a little rattle that can be heard in the cabin. I think it's the same as (1).
3) I
think
my PSE is a little softer. It could be my paranoia, but I'm suspecting perhaps only the right can of the PSE is actuating and the left one is malfunctioning.
4) Sometimes, when I switch PSE/SC on/off it doesn't make any noise (appart from a mild whirring which is normal) and sometimes it makes a brief rattle, like all previous occasions.
5) When I installed the SRP, I had to relocate the PSE solenoid. It was tied onto the brass lifting bolt on the engine, so I zip-tied it to another component. SRP is the only mod I have.
I'm going in to the dealer tomorrow. I'm 60% certain it's a warranty PSE issue. I think the rattle happens when the brake is pumped because it's on the same vacuum hose, I don't think they're actually related.
Anyone else got an idea what's going on?
My guess is that the heat shields were not fully secured when the rear quarter was replaced.
Do a search for
PSE
on ********.com under the 997 board. I remember reading about a bunch of issues with loose internal components in the
PSE
in 2006 builds.
The symptoms they described are very similar to yours.
Good luck.
Turns out there's a fault with the
PSE
actuator on the left side as I suspected. To be replaced under warranty.
Thanks for the suggestion, pete. I had a long look and it was quite enlightening.
Glad to hear it's being taken care of!
