Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My 2001 Carrera with stock intake, no chip, FVD headers, stock cats, and muffler bypass pipes is 262 and that is with a new 3.4 engine which was installed two years ago.
Leading evidence: 'Install two years ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'exhaust and remap combo' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car since i'm winning' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Whatever hp gain was made is more likely the exhaust and remap combo but I didn't do any before and after so it's just conjecture.

Suggestion
That's the only track around that has one onsite and NASA feels the need to randomly check my car since I'm winning.

If I change the pressure values to simulate the top of mt.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just out of curiousity, what are the 3.4s putting down on the dyno?
I have the fabspeed stage 1 on my car(3.4L)...fabspeed is claiming 297hp to the wheels(3.6l). Has anyone done this independently?
I know there is difference between the 3.4s and 3.6s but how much?
I had the Farnbacher Loles flash twice. The first time was to advance timing with the CAI and exhaust package. Throttle response was noticeably better but not necessarily quicker. The second flash was after the installation of headers. Timing was further advanced tying the CAI, header and exhaust in one package. Midrange torque is more noticeable. I drove a stock MKII 3.6L cab back to back and my car felt just as quick if not with a bit more punch.
It might help to tell us all what constitutes a Fabspeed Stage 1???
My 3.6 with x51 headers, fabspeed cat bypass pipes, fabspeed mufflers and the evoms intake put down 299RWHP.
Interesting stuff.... I get protested and dyno'd regularily at NASA races. I'm always right around 272 in my 3.4. I'm basically stock with 3.8 997S exhaust manifolds (not headers but noticably larger ports), Fabspeed cat delete pipes w/open exhaust, and GIAC's street flash.
I'd love to get to your 284 Ritter, any suggestions?...
PS: Steve Weiner's map?
Dynos are a good tool to convince someone that all the money they spent did in fact boost the torque and horsepower. The printout is proof and can be framed and displayed, taken to the bar for a good bench racing session, etc. An aside, a good dyno operator can tweek the numbers and get almost any results he wants or expects. This is especially easy on the Dynojet models.
If you are into bragging about RWHP, you probably shouldn't drive a NA 996
I would hope that bragging is not really the point with Porsches - especially race cars or tuning. Sure the Viper and Z06 folks want to see 600 RWHP numbers, but for tuning, you use the same dyno and settings to get an accurate baseline. Then you change something and see the results.

Dynojets take pressure, temperature and humidity into account to calculate SAE horsepower. In the WinPep software, you can manually override these figures and put in your own. If I change the pressure values to simulate the top of mt. everest, it'll assume the car's making a lot more HP to spin the drums with that little available oxygen to combust.
Unfortunately I'm stuck with the Dynojet 248 at Buttonwillow. Interesting that the company that runs the dyno also builds and services my main competitors. That's the only track around that has one onsite and NASA feels the need to randomly check my car since I'm winning. It will be interesting to compare dyno runs at Miller in Salt Lake City next month for NASA's Nationals. I'm hoping to lose 5 or more HP there. Always SAE corrected....
My 2001 Carrera with stock intake, no chip, FVD headers, stock cats, and muffler bypass pipes is 262 and that is with a new 3.4 engine which was installed two years ago. So if you have 296 with that Stage 1 Fabspeed I would wonder if that is possible. Who knows? My dyno was done at Abacus Racing in Virginia Beach Stuska model 800 water brake dynamometer.
Any upgrade on my ECU would bump me one class from Stock H to Prepared I in Club Racing. As for the Sport Cat or Cat By Pass, my people tell me to leave the cats alone as they act as a muffler somewhat and more importantly provide backpressure for better low end torque.
I have scheduled a few pulls at Miller on the test day before the races start. It will be interesting to see where I come in but I'm betting I'll be in the 265 range. That's another 60lbs. I can drop
....
Brake dynos measure torque using an adjustable resistance to drag down and stall a motor. Time is factored in and horsepower is the result. These numbers are repeteable and this type of dyno is much more accurate than the cheaper roller drum types. But they are also much more expensive.
Honestly don't recall.
Short term buy that we cleaned up a little when we got them but they seen over a year of track duty and held together so far.
Whatever hp gain was made is more likely the exhaust and remap combo but I didn't do any before and after so it's just conjecture.
If I keep the revs up (> 4.5k) it'll hang with similarly modded 3.6s no problem it seems.
Ritter: Thank you for your input. I am trying to bump up my power a little bit with I/H/E and a tune until I can get a TT. I really like my car but feel like 20 more hp and 100 lbs less would make it much better.
Weight, or lack thereof, makes a huge impact on these cars. It affects acceleration of course, but also braking and cornering. While I may only have 270 to the rear wheels, I can run with many cars with substantially more HP and I usually get them under braking. I'm 2600lbs. w/driver and OEM 3.4 calipers & rotors....
