I was pouring over the car, triple checking my owners bundle, and was getting ready to say I did not have the radio code.

I'll double check the owners manual now that it is light out - but if the previous owner thought to not put the card back, is that something you can go to a dealership to get?

It is in the ECU (only have to worry about it if you replace the stereo).

You guys were spot on about the battery being the probable cause when the clock reset when the car started.

With the new battery, I'm seeing 11v running, 12v when starting.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You guys were spot on about the battery being the probable cause when the clock reset when the car started. Had the battery replaced and the winter tires mounted while I was on a trip, so drove it for the first time today. Two dumb questions...
The voltmeter was reading 11v - which seems low. I thought it was closer to 13v, but of course, that was with a dying battery. What is normal?
Also, is the code for the stock radio in the owners manual? I'll dig into it in the morning, but I don't remember seeing anything written or printed with the code.
that does seem low if the car is running and its only 11 , should get the alternator checked
the code is on a small grey card in the radio book in the owners manual binder.
you dont mention what year the car is or what radio
doe the radio have a tp button? if so turn the radio on it should display
code
holed the tp button till it beeps and says becker
use the left button to scroll trhough till you get the serial number
pm me the serial number and il get the unlock code for you
So it read 11V with the bad battery, what does it read with the new battery? It should be below the 14 , about 13. And it would show about 13.4 to 13.8 with a volt meter.
It was reading 13v with the dying battery. With the new battery, I'm seeing 11v running, 12v when starting. Did not seem right. Perhaps a fully charged battery was installed? I've only put a dozen miles on it since the repair.
I'll double check the owners manual now that it is light out - but if the previous owner thought to not put the card back, is that something you can go to a dealership to get?
The car is a 2001 C4.
firehawk - I bought my 996 car used and I do not have the stereo unlock code. While I am currently not having any battery problems, it would be nice to have the unclok code so that when (not if) the battery dies, I can re-program the stereo.
I have a Bose CDR23 stereo with a TP button. However, when I press and hold the TP button for 15+ seconds, nothing changes. I do not get the "beep" or "Becker" wording. Do you have any additional suggestions or other ways to help me get the serial number and, ultimately, the unlock code?
Thanks!
Lol. The radio code mystery is solved. I was pouring over the car, triple checking my owners bundle, and was getting ready to say I did not have the radio code. My wife saw me running in and out of the house, pulling out the flashlight, and finally asked what I was up too. I explained I was missing the code.
She replies - "Oh, I put that with the title. It said don't keep it in the car, which makes sense since it was an anti-theft code."
Argh...
That, and the voltmeter was reading ~13v this morning. All is right with the word. (Thanks for the offer of generating the code, however. You guys are great)
