Hey guys!
So I initially threw this in the wrong sub forum before discovering the audio section here. My bad, sorry guys! Anyways.... New member here. Longtime Rennlister, have owned a 944 Turbo for almost exactly 7 years to the day. Picked up a new-to-me 2006 Cayman S last week. The Cayman will be largely a track car... in fact, previous owner used it exclusively for track use. (Long story short, PO blew the car up, sold it to a local race shop, who reconstructed it for me...)
Doing a lot of Googling, seems a lot of images link back to threads here, so figured I'd give a post here a shot.
I'd like to have SOME kind of tunes available. The car originally had Bose w/Nav in it (RPO 680 and P16), though pretty much everything was removed at some point, save for the door speakers.
I acquired a pile of the factory components: Nav HU, amp, CD drive, and Navi DVD drive. Got them from a friend through the local PCA chapter. He also threw in a Denison iPod controller. For the price, I'd like to try getting this stuff to work first before I give it back to him and go with an aftermarket HU and speakers.
I actually got the HU and amp ahead of time... and nothing turned on. Totally dead. Thinking I needed the rest of the pieces, I worked out a deal with my buddy for the other stuff in the pile. I connected the DVD drive (electrical, optical, and antenna) thinking/hoping that would do the trick... but no dice.
Should I expect the HU to at least power up? Or will the whole system be dead until all the pieces are plugged in? I'm not sure the car was ever equipped with the CD changer - I found the power plug but can't find any extra fiber optic cables (plus the build sheet I downloaded doesn't list the RPO code for CD changer...)
For what I paid for the giant pile of stuff, it's IMO worth trying to get it working. I don't care about audio quality in this particular car... it's pretty loud (headers, B&B mufflers) plus no sound deadening or carpeting from the seats, rearward... I get that there is "better stuff" out there but for now, it'd be great to just get this functional.
Am I missing something?
Check our articles section for details on stereo install and removal along with NAV conversions, Dension installs, etc. As I recall my NAV HU didn't power up until I plugged it into the harness but once I did, then it powered up.
Got it all working. There was no fuse in the fuse panel for the radio. Got the amp mounted in the correct spot, the DVD drive mounted in the correct spot, and got it all wired up. Everything powers up, I get sound, the Nav works, etc. It does seem my car did NOT come equipped with the CD changer, but the radio came out of a car that DID have the changer, so I get an error every time I fire the car up.
I got the Denison working, but only at the expense of the navigation... so for now, I'll probably just eBay the Denison unit and upgrade to a BT module.
The articles section here eventually led me to what needed to happen.
Did you have to do any of the wiring for the amp and speakers or were they still there? Any PN for connectors you needed to buy? Sounds like you got the different MOST optic harness for the CD changer. All cars seem to have the power cord for the changer but you need to get a PIWIS to code up telling your car you have one.
Did you make sure to get the correct navigation drive for horizontal orientation? There is a similar one that is vertical only, you can tell you have the wrong one if the GPS icon doesn't track correctly on the Nav screen.
