He told me that according to the notes in his system, the Porsche speaker wires are not compatible with aftermarket head units, and that I'd need to run new wiring to all of the speaker locations.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi guys, I'm planning to swap out my factory (non- Bose ) head unit with an aftermarket Kenwood model this year. I have the Sound Package Plus on my car. The rep I was speaking to at Crutchfield said something that sounds odd, which I wanted to confirm with folks here. He told me that according to the notes in his system, the Porsche speaker wires are not compatible with aftermarket head units, and that I'd need to run new wiring to all of the speaker locations. Is that true? It doesn't make any sense to me since they're just copper wires, and this is a non- Bose unit . Can anyone who's swapped out their non- Bose head unit please confirm?

POST 2Original post

I'd Stop talking to Crutchfield, and start talking to Loi @ Euromotorspeed.

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the quick confirmation, thunderlord. I think Crutchfield was mixing up the Bose vs. non- Bose models. I aready bought the Euromotorspeed bezel, an will reach out to Loi to get more insight on the head unit swap. I still need to purchase the headunit from somewhere. I'm getting one of this year's Kenwood Excelon head units (the DDX6903S ). The three things I like about Crutchfield are that they have great prices, vehicle specific connector kits so you don't have to splice the factory wiring, and detailed installation instructions for DIYselfers.

POST 4Original post

Honestly, after all the information I did here regarding my Pioneer install (I have Bose ) and reading through how extremely helpful Loi is, I went ahead and bought everything I needed from him on their ebay site, and my 4100NEX on Amazon . With the relatively small sample group of Cayman people that are installing their own aftermarket radio's, going with Eurospeed just made everything super easy. His bezel matches perfectly as well! Good luck on the install.

POST 5Original post

Dang that looks great! I'm hoping to end up with as clean of an install when I'm finished. A Bose swap would have been a lot more involved than what I'm contemplating for my non- Bose car. Thanks for the pointer to Eurospeed.

POST 6Original post

You *may* have to rewrite the connector for the speakers, but not replace the wire. My 2007 Cayman needed the connector done. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
