Suggestion

With engine out you will need to drain the coolant and power steering fluid and disconnect a few other things, wiring etc but it does make life easier to get the box from the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening I may need a new clutch in my 996 turbo x50. Some say engine out some say can be done without engine out. Any one got experience of either. Then which clutch , flywheel etc would everyone go with. Not a daily, used for spirited runs when I fancy. Thanks

POST 3Original post

With engine out you will need to drain the coolant and power steering fluid and disconnect a few other things, wiring etc but it does make life easier to get the box from the engine. This is good if you want to do any over engine brake lines or check or corrosion etc. But if its just the clutch I would just remove the gearbox.
