Hi. My first day as member at this eminent site/forum. Nice place!
I've been searching but haven't found any solution. As many of us, my Cayman S has "Sound pkt Plus" (why +????). The sound and the lack of base is embarrasing.
I'm going to take a short cut and install a Bazooka (the subwoofer!) behind the seats (there is space enough)! My question is if I have 2 amps, front and gear, and if so can I wiring it to the gear amp or is the front amp a must to be able to run the sub from the stereo?
Depending on which amp to use, what is the best way to hide/pull the wires. And can I take power from from cig socket?
I've read that this isn't the most sound-effective solution but it's simple due most of the time I prefer to listen to the original sport exhaust's Blue Whale sound...
Thanks in advance for any kind of advice //Plaincollar
You should provide us some more information about your "Bazooka"
I would connect it to the front speakers in order to ensure that the volume of the subwoofer runs always senchronious with the volume of the main (Front) system
If your "Bazooka" is an MickeyMouse Subwoofer (low power consumption), then you could supply it from the cig socket, but any serious subwoofer will need a dicated power supply
BTW. I can't imagine that any subwoofer will fit behind or under the seats of the Cayman
Obviously it would be better to splice in between head unit and the existing amps, using an active crossover and a separate amp for the woofer.
If you don't do that then the bass frequencies still go to the small speakers and high volume will have distorted sound.
Mostly it sholdn't be a problem, because as soon the (sub-)bass is more weighty/substantial, you do not try to compensate its lack through the higher volume. You enjoy your music already at lower volume levels
Thanks for yoúr replies.
I agree with both of you. Not to forgett that my priority one is track handling/performance (and maby some eye candy on the outside....). That's why I've a small budget for this.
How ever, I'll splice the active sub with the front bas speaker using a high/low converter as you "dud" notes and to get low pass connectors.. Power will be supplyed throug the battery itself. It's not a system I'd recommend but as you "Mister Cool" mentions, I just wont to increase the "deep" base a bit due it's nada as it come. My purpuse is not to play for the pavement/sidewalk...
But: I made an attempt to remove the radio/cd. I took off the side panels, unscrewed the right side bolt, and twisted the the 4 "allen bolts". At the Youtube clip i viewed, in that moment the HU was lose and just to pull out. In my case, not unexpected, it was stuck. The only thing that went wrong was "the 4 allen bolts" released from its place but that shouldn't do any differens? Can anyone tell me why it's still stuck in its place? Have I overlooked anything? Would appreciate all help I can get.
Best regards //Plaincollar
