Suspected cause
It was the perfect exhaust for me, not to loud with the top down (the wife would drive/ride in it) but loud enough that the wife hated it.
Leading evidence: 'perfect exhaust' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'perfect exhaust' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check inbox' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I would recommend the Tubi, only complaint is the cost.
Replace muffler and getting a 997s europipe system

Suggestion
I'll be selling it as soon as I get my new engine in, since I'll be replacing the muffler and getting a 997s Europipe system.

Evan - If you do the stock mufflers to "PSE" mod, use some '02 + mufflers because I have read that they sould much better.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering modding my exhaust - I currently have a stock system on my '04 C4S (with the 'quad' SS pipes). I live 1/2 mile from AWE and have always been confident with their work. Anyone have them install a system? Is is their custom system, Borla, other? I'd be looking for a system that has a throaty sound, preferably cat back, durable and good looking. Suggestions?
Thanks!
We were just talking about exhaust systems at our weekly GTG and the one thing to look out for is unwanted resonance, particulary around 3000rpm (where you spend most of the time at cruising speed).
I have the OEM PSE system and it sounds great with no unwanted resonance. I really like having the off switch to make it quieter when I need to run in stealth mode. Yes it's pricey, but well worth it IMHO since it's designed, engineered and backed by Porsche.
Try to listen/drive to as many systems as possible.
I might make it; however, the exhaust is not installed as my car is gone. The Tubi has a very mild sound at idle, not much different than stock. When you get on it it comes to life. It was the perfect exhaust for me, not to loud with the top down (the wife would drive/ride in it) but loud enough that the wife hated it. I would recommend the Tubi, only complaint is the cost.
Looks like many of the links have expired.
Here's the B&B

The exhause sound is linked on the right of the page. The sound is pretty close to the one mine makes.
I have a 2005 muffler by Europipe for my 996. You can see and hear a video at:
www.europipe.be/1024.html
Sounds great and has very nice metalwork. I'll be selling it as soon as I get my new engine in, since I'll be replacing the muffler and getting a 997s Europipe system. The 2005 muffler took about 1,000 miles to break in, then came the not to loud, but nice low rumble and smooth upper sound with no in car resonance. I definately am buying Europipe again. Made in Belgium by Stef and Herman Tourne'.
Phil the best thing to do is to hear different types of exhuast in person to make up your mind. Sound is dependent on your taste. If your look for HP there is not much to be found, 5HP at best. I would not get a custom built exhaust as the price would be very expensive and you'll probably won't get any real HP from it nor that much better sound. It up to your taste and how much are you willing to spend.
Evan - If you do the stock mufflers to "PSE" mod, use some '02 + mufflers because I have read that they sould much better. I did the '99 -'01 mufflers, and while it is better than stock, it is not as loud or as throaty as I had hoped. I have not heard the modded '02+ "cans" in person, but I am thinking of doing that or just getting true PSE. If you decide to do the mod, I would love to hear some before and after clips if you can arrange that. Thanks!
Guys, I have a 3.4L engine and I got some 3.6L (2003) cans and modded them with as I've said
here
(post#9)
How is it ? Its awesome !!! I didn't expect them to be that good, but its quite close (and close as an "in-car" to PC-headphones can be) to the PSE clip out
here
. Its not loud as bypass pipes nor is there any resonance (I have a stock air box and intake- FYI). The throatiness is at the perfect levels - almost better than the PSE I'd believe (why? See that version of the PSE, like I modded goes on a 3.6L engine - I put mine on a 3.4L engine).
I'd highly recommend this mod but just get it some from a shop that knows how to create custom exhausts - you don't want a leak from a poor job to burn something inside your car as the burning hot gases escape from such a hole !!
Evan - Here are some pics of both stock and modified mufflers. The first two pics show the "modded" muffler on the left, which is a 3.4L engine muffler for '99 - '01. The muffler on the right is my '04 stock muffler for the 3.6L engine ('02 - '04).
This is how can you tell the difference between the 3.4L muffler and the 3.6L muffler. The 3.4L muffler has a straight pipe that connects to the cats, while the 3.6L muffler has the "accordion" like pipe that attaches to the cat.
The 3rd pic shows real PSE mufflers.
BTW - earlier today I got the chance to here REAL PSE mufflers for the first time in person and they sounded SWEEEEET!
Yes, Thanks
It was hard to understand why a muffler would have 2 intakes and only 1 outlet; having the gases go back through the process agian with the 2nd and 3rd chambers. I would have thought it would be the other way around. Being that you would want to expel the gases as quickly as possible (more flow).
Phil, my car was the prototype for their exhaust system. PM me for more info or to hear/check it out in person. I'm not too far from you - Hatboro, PA

Mitty's links for the Kreissieg Exhaust is AWSOME!!! It made me become a member. People who can find stuff like that, are friends of mine. My account is messed up for now. Will have pics and info when they fix my account. But hello to all for now. Jugger911
