I understand many people have posted wonderful articles on how to install 2din unit; maybe i should've paid a professional to do this.
Well i didn't
, and i'm trying to install alpine w205 on my cayman (sound package plus, no bose, no cd changer) without CAN bus adapter.
it seems like w205 has auto dimming sensor on the unit, so the only wire i need to draw to the dash is 12v ignition, which i suppose c-6 from the fuse box. so my question,
1) is there easiest/cleanest way to draw wire from the fuse box to the dash? (if the question seemed silly, it is my first time installing headunit
)
i am going to use fuse tap method shown in some other article.
2) the headunit sticks out about half an inch from the bezel, and i just simply have no idea how to adjust it to obtain somewhat OEM look. (the black panel that came with the jap bezel came pre-drilled to fit the bezel suspender(metal arm thingy))
I only ask this question because everybody who posted their pictures (of alpine iva w205) seemed to have the head unit aligned perfectly.
Please help!
Hi, looks like you've done most of the work already. I don't have the Alpine unit (mine's the Pioneer AVIC-HD3BT) but obviously you somehow need to mount the w205 a little further back. I guess you've been through this one already, but if there are no other mounting holes on the w205 or options on the black bracket, the only other alternative is to drill your own holes in the bracket.
As for feeding power, I used C6 on the fuse box. I fed the cable around the back of the box so it could not be seen and you can easily close the cover.
Wish you well, but come back if you need any more.
Thank you very much for your help. Well, I just finished it, now another problem- NO BASS!! does that mean i need an AMP? haha my stereo sounds ridiculous with zero bass.
I don't mean low bass, I mean 'no' bass. what do i do??
Please see my PM in response to yours, you're not the only one to PM me with this issue after installation; you didn't properly connect the remote lead on the head-unit to the sound package plus amplifier that powers the door subwoofers and center channel speakers. The wire from the sound package plus amplifier is red\black at pin 2 of the power\antenna plug and the wiring harness from Japan does not have the wire already set; you must move an extra wire to make the contact between your headunit's accessory lead to this wire.

Suneet's solved your bass problem. How did you get the unit to move back - I assume you re-fitted the brackets in a different position?
YEs! Thank you very very much for all your help.
Suneet, you were right, i forgot to connect Remote On wire from the dash- I guess i missed that wire while i was connecting the bypass module to the head unit.
About the bracket thingy, i decided to use 1 screw on each side panel (black). I guess i could've drilled, too.
Because everything fits extremely tight once it goes into the dash, it seemed like there is no need for 4 screws on each side.
I really don't want to open it up again, not even for GPS
Sound is very good, hell i loved the quality of stock radio. As long as it has ipod interface and plays mp3 cd/dvds, I'm happy.
Thanks a lot guys!
Glad you got it all sorted out.
