Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I've been a lurker on this site for some time now. I went through a beautiful E36 M3, and now have an 01 330i as a daily driver. The wife gave the go-ahead for a Porsche, and I was looking at the older models. The 996 sure has caught both of our attention though. Power, luxury, style and relative "newness" are all big factors for me. I found this '99 C2 cab w/tip (..I know, tip...) on ebay. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger if a PPI checks out. Before I get that far though... Is there anything obviously wrong about this car that sticks out to you? No need to be polite, please tear it up! Your help is appreciated.

Honestly try to find an 01+ (Really an 02 would be best if you can swing it) The interior on the 99's are very cheap feeling IMHO. Also look for a car fitted with Full Leather it is a must have option. I would shy away from 99's if you can't afford an 01+ get an 00'.
Read the thread started by Molly on 11-10-06 for opinions on various years. Search this forum for comments on 99s. If you feel pressured to make a decision this is not something to be pressured about. A 99 cab with tip and hard top will weight the most of the 2 wheel drive models of that year. I'd get one with a limited slip diff option personally. As always, buy the newest Porsche you can afford is the advice most frequently given as they are all great cars and ongoing improvements occur during the model's life cycle (i.e. 996 is a model).

Marc

I'm not going to start the 02+ vs 99 debate, but I wouldn't rule out 99's either, especially if you want a more visceral feel. Alot of them are cable throttle and LSD equipped. I would just recommend you drive them all. Any 99 that is still running around today has had the bugs worked out, and any that aren't will make themselves apparent during a PPI.

I was speaking of 1/4 mile times. My car is not a cab but is a tiptronic and the best I could muster was 13.97. E36 M3s run those times esaily. Its all about gearing. On a road course I dont know, I was only speaking of acceleration.
BS on that one, the old M3's are very slow in comparison. Also, a c4 weighs more than the c2 plus cab, heaviest car should be c4 cab tip, correct? The car he's showing looks very nice and the hard top would be an extra great thing to have. Also, I think the tip is appropriate on the cab. If you like it, buy it. It seems like a fair deal.
Also, how many times must we go through this.................. The '99 is the lightest and quickest plus bestest................. of all of them. No Porsche is a bad Porsche, they haven't made a bad Porsche in a very long time............. They're all great cars!
