Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Any idea on a ballpark estimate for the repair bill?

Hopefully, that's not what happened, but if it did, you won't like the repair cost.

I wasn't sure if they could just replace the ignition switch and keep the same key pattern, but I guess they can.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought my first
Porsche
(finally after wanting one for years) on Friday. Today (Sunday) my father asked if he could drive it (
2006 Cayman S
). I gave him the key but unfortunately he stuck his own car key in the ignition. Now my
Porsche
original key won't fit in the ignition. Can anyone help?
I'm not looking forward to taking it to the dealer (in Toronto) because I've heard that they won't service cars imported from the US.
Any advice would be appreciated from this Newbie.
ouch, what do u mean would not fit? is it as in doesnt go in at all or as in goes in but rattles and is not held correctly?

OH MY I am sorry to hear. I guess its better off he didnt even get a chance to drive the thing at all then. He must have really jammed that puppy in there. Drew
I'm very sorry to hear this. I suspect all is not lost, because I'll bet there are independent
Porsche
shops in Toronto that would like very much to have your business. Send your father the bill, because you'll have to have it flat-bedded to the shop.
There is a key release key in your fuse box; consult your manual and try doing that process; it's possible that the "key grabbers" have engaged but did not retract when the non-
porsche
key was used. If that fails, then you probably will have to go to the dealer.

The ignition key uses wafers (not the old pins) which can be damaged if the wrong key is forced in. Hopefully, that's not what happened, but if it did, you won't like the repair cost.
unfortunately I'm going to be facing the repair cost. I tried releasing the key grabber as suggested by suneet but that didn't do the trick. flatbed is on the way .... this is not the ideal way to start as a
porsche
owner, although I did enjoy the one day of driving before it was disabled!
Any idea on a ballpark estimate for the repair bill?
I would like to think that it is a warranty issue but I'm not holding my breath since "stupid human tricks" were involved. My Father thinks it reflects a
Porsche
design error.
4 days and $548 later I finally got my car back!
The "Ignition Lock Assembly" was replaced.
If you ever let someone else drive your
Cayman
- send them through a metal detector to ensure that they don't have any other keys that could inadvertantly be inserted into the ignition!
Glad you had it all sorted out, now go drive her and your mood will change in no time

Yea really I expected worse; one time due to a break-in and stolen key we had my dad's Cayenne rekeyed (ignition and door locks) and the cost was over $2000 (insurance paid for it). I wasn't sure if they could just replace the ignition switch and keep the same key pattern, but I guess they can.
