Regulator was replaced by previous owner, so suspected the membrane - and sure enough it has a small tear - but I've just used some sealant and waterproof tape to do a quick repair.

My thoughts are though that when the window regulator was replaced, did they not get the membrane right when they put the door back together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Door seems full of water only the drivers side. if i press the door carpet at the bottom water comes out like a squeezed sponge. I had the window regulator replaced on this side a few months back. What with all the rain, might it have been damaged or could it be a bad install at the indy? the passenger side hasn't been touched and doesn't have the same water issue. Should I take it back to the indy with this? :?:

POST 2Original post

Hi, I would sounds like the membrane is damaged. Do a search and theres plenty about the membrane. cheers

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes I searched the subject to find out what was wrong. My thoughts are though that when the window regulator was replaced, did they not get the membrane right when they put the door back together. On that repair receipt is says membrane o/s no sound pack for £40 or so. otherwise how else could a newly worked on door suffer these symptoms? How does a door membrane get damaged?

POST 4Original post

Sounds as if they haven't got the sealing strip on the membrane to adhere properly. You could check for yourself http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=50427] but I would take it back to the garage and get them to do it again.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that's the advice I was hoping for. I read that thread and many others in my searching and very informative it is. I don't have the guts to start opening things up myself. I'll have a talk with the indy on Monday see what they say. thank you

POST 6Original post

It's a really easy job if you can use a screwdriver but as you have paid the Indy for the job get them to sort it out.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The indy has told me they have sorted it out after a 2 hour visit today. They said the speaker connector in the door had damaged the membrane and asked firstly if i had done any work on the speakers which i have not. I guess it accidentally got damaged when they put it back together following the window regulator replacement. They said they cleaned the drainage pipes as well just to be sure. Nicely done Indy.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

5 year later Just finished the rear nearside drain tube making rear seat wet. sorted that - Car dry, no more condensation, then a few days later the wet door carpet has returned in the front driver side. I've took the door card off, a small part fell out, brittle plastic clips have snapped. What is the part I wonder? Found the leak. see pic. where should this water be going if it isn't leaking onto the door carpet? is there a drain hole i don't know about? removed the two plastic grommets under side of door nothing i can see to do there no water came out. any advice welcomed. :?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sidler 1381 doah, the part is from the ash tray to make it open slowly. fell off years ago and never bothered to replace it, must have put it in the door compartment. haha.

POST 12Original post

Mine had the wet door car thing going on as well after we had some rain here. Regulator was replaced by previous owner, so suspected the membrane - and sure enough it has a small tear - but I've just used some sealant and waterproof tape to do a quick repair. Membrane is only £65 though so no Biggie, just wanted to try stop the water for now. It seems to have worked but I doubt it is a permanent fix!

POST 13Original post

Also, the drain isn't where those grommets are - it's under the rubber seals. If you feel under the door you can feel the holes. Mine are permanently wet, but clear, and there's usually a bit of water on the kick plate which suggests they are working. If you've replaced the membrane and it all looks fine, take a look at the top of the door where the inner window seal sits near the mirror. You might see a trace that water has run down onto the interior side of the membrane. That could be the culprit even if your membrane is perfect. The seals are pretty expensive too - it is this part: https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod126939/Door-Gasket-INNER-Porsche-986-Boxster---996/ Based on your picture though it looks more like it is actually the seal on the membrane isn't watertight.

POST 14Original post

I have done lots of these over various 996/997/986/987 that are in our garage at the moment. My feeling is that if you are going to take the door card off for any reason it is wise to have a full set of replacement clips to secure it once whatever the task that required removal is completed. The clips provide a significant clamping force to secure the membrane against the door and even if the membrane is intact it is likely that with a failed or failing clip you are likely to see a leak. They are not expensive by any means from OPC but are also available from lots of sellers on ebay also.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The door card has dried out indoors. It came off well all clips intact so hopefully will go back ok. I used a plastic spatula from my old rice cooker to remove the door card, worked remarkably well. The seal is the fault for certain see pic. Will reseal with tiger seal when a dry day outside. Good to find the drains under the rubber seal as suggested Number21 thanks. Many thanks to all on this great forum.
