I thought I read somewhere that you can set the car so that when driving at night, there is an ambient light inside the car (overhead, footwell and I think door). My brother's
BMW
has this automatically.
Was I seeing things or can the
Cayman
do this?
Thanks
look closely and u will see the light...!!!
overhead, door handles....not in the footwell.
Is there light at the door handle?
Just how bright is the ambient light?
I tried it in my garage with the lights out and I can't see it.
I don't need to have the
PCM
option do I?
The lights are there but it does require some prep work. You also need a partner to give you some assistance.
This is best done under dark or low light conditions.
Let your partner stand outside the car first. Turn on the headlights while the ignition is on and the driver side door open. Bring your head forward towards the door pull. Let your partner close the door. You will see the lights. First they will blink like stars, but they are definitely there. If you do not see the lights first attempt, just repeat the whole process while extending you head towards the door just a bit more. It is just that they are little dim.
And if blue eyes method doesn't work and you don't have a hammer available you can always - drum roll - read the manual.

To be continued in the Owner's Manual.....
A good friend of mine and I were out driving in my new CS last night. She was looking at everything: buttons, switches, compartments, etc. At one point, she noticed a subdued white light on the back of her hand. She held her left hand out over the shifter and asked, "Where is this light coming from?" It looked like soft moonlight, but there was no moon. She slowly raised her palm, revealing to us both the source: The ambient light in the overhead. We had not noticed it before then.
Sorry about the hijack, but I wonder if color bulbs could be used instead of a subtle blue-white? I have a red CS, so I wonder what red ambient light would look like? For those with a blue car, maybe a blue bulb? Hmmm...
Hey Bullseye, I have been contemplating the same to add some wamth into the interior at night. I have been thinking about changing the LED with a red LED...
You know, that's what threw me off.
(I finally saw the ambient light, by the way)
With my brother's
BMW
, the ambient light is red and brighter.
On this car, it's quite dim. I'm not really complaining, just an observation.
Agreed. You would not know it's there unless you held something under it. I would probably still be oblivious to it, if not for the inquisitive eyes of my friend,
Kurious Karen
. The good thing is, its subtle glow doesn't distract your attention.
While driving... Why do you ask?
Because I never knew they were there.
