Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The previous owner of my car was surprised to learn (after I had investigated the car's provenance) that the car actually had a Tracker fitted from new!

Suggestion
tg - if you set the cruise at 50 MPH that's what the car will (aim to) do, all day long untill you either press the clutch or brake pedal (lightly will suffice) or cancel with the cruise stalk switch, or even adjust the speed with the stalk switch for that matter.
Leading evidence: 'Install from new' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust speed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
If you've previously set cruise to 50 MPH and cruise is currently inactive, if, say you were travelling at 35 MPH, the moment you press "Resume" cruise will throttle up the car untill you reach 50 MPH to which it will then attempt to maintain.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Really dumb question...apologies
Which the guy selling the car could not answer!!!
..certainly won't be buying his..
On the 996 does the cruise control allow the driver to set a max speed (ie. when going through speed cameras, etc)?
Thanks
^^^ What GT4 said ^^^
But you can of course use it as a speed limiter by setting the cruise control speed and staying off the gas pedal! Then use resume to accelerate again, instead of the throttle pedal, and then you can't really speed...
That's how I use it anyway... Not quite as good as the Adaptive Cruise Control I had in the RRS, but it works OK for me.

If you
don't
do any of the above but then accelerate, you will go faster than 50 MPH until you come off the throttle and begin to decelerate, until you decelerate to 50 MPH when the cruise control will bring in the throttle in order to maintain 50 MPH.
If you've previously set cruise to 50 MPH and cruise is currently inactive, if, say you were travelling at 35 MPH, the moment you press "Resume" cruise will throttle up the car untill you reach 50 MPH to which it will then attempt to maintain.
Clear as mud eh?
Nick B, glad you bothered to reply to this.
For the OP to lay in to seller for not knowing if his car had a limit control as part of the cruise option is pretty unfair when the OP then doesn't seem to know how or what a cruise control does!
Judging by the threads on this forum, half the members don't know what they have or what a hand book is for. That is human nature. To write off a sale based on the fact an owner can't with certainty state the features their car doesn't have is overly harsh.
My Dad had his E280 CDI for a year before we discussed a scenario when he said it would be handy to have a limiter. I then pointed out the "limit control" switch on the cruise stalk!
However, knowing how he drives and looks after the car, I would rather buy a car off him than someone else who just happens to know all the gadgets the car has.
The previous owner of my car was surprised to learn (after I had investigated the car's provenance) that the car actually had a Tracker fitted from new! The fact he was unaware had no bearing on my decision to buy the car.
I think that's a pretty arrogant attitude. If the car isn't a daily driver then you'd be unlikely to ever use the cruise control.
To be honest, if I was selling a 911 and got questions from a potential buyer about something like that, I'd probably assume they were a timewaster.
My 996 C4 ('02) has cruise control. There's no speed limiter (per previous posts).
When I exceed 70 there's a whining noise from the front of the car; that's either the wife or the trip computer (which includes a speed limit warning). The limit warning makes a noise when you exceed a limit you specify. To be honest, it's good when you accelerate to 70 and find you are already doing 90, but a pain when you keep being "reminded" that you are just over 50 (I have the wife for that).
Not all cars were fitted with cruise control/OBC or PCM and the 'ding'
from the OBC speed limit warning is barely audible if the stereo is
playing or the windows are down
