You can install XM radio using an external receiver using an FM transmitter, or a fiber-optic MOST bus aux interface such as the Dension Gateway 500 that will also allow you to integrate your iPhone for music but not for phone calls.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

New Cayman S owner of 1 week!!
Very proud of this car. Can you say... sweeit!!! I want to integrate my iphone and XM into the car. Dealer is quoting 1700 for integrated XM approach, but seems steep for a radio
I also want to use my iphone to play songs and also to mute the music when I call or someone calls. Another not so important task. It seems that DVD's should play in the Nav DVD unit. Is this possible? Any help?
Easiest way for you to do this is a new headunit. You can install XM radio using an external receiver using an FM transmitter, or a fiber-optic MOST bus aux interface such as the Dension Gateway 500 that will also allow you to integrate your iPhone for music but not for phone calls. You could in addition buy the Tooki bluetooth kit that will allow you to have integrated bluetooth phone in the car through the fiber optic bus. Alternatively, you could integrate the iPhone's bluetooth calling via a Parrot or Motorola Bluetooth interface. There are many options depending on what you want exactly... I suggest doing a search or elaborating on how integrated of a solution you're really after.
And no, the factory dvd drive in the front trunk will not play movies; it's a dvd-rom drive but the PCM has no software to play dvd movies. It's illegal to play movies from the headunit anyways, a huge distraction.

Suneet,
Thank you sir!! I have read many of your posts and have spent the last week or so obsessing on how to get these things integrated. I do have the PCM 2.1 NAV unit and would like to keep it (obviously). I'm thinking that the Dension Gateway 500 would allow me to add my iphone interface which would be good for music (good enough) but not for phone calls. I do understand that with the bluetooth adapter, I could use it for calls which would be cool. I could probably by an aftermarket XM unit which could plug into the Dension Aux-in unit (is this true?) and that would get me both iphone music (good enough) and XM radio without going through an XM station. Is all of this true? From my research, this seems reasonable. Do you know of the exact model names of the Dension unit + bluetooth units I would need? It also seems that I have to know what kind of fiber optic I have as well (Yazaki or Tyco) as well. I do not have the 6 disc changer, so I do understand that I'll have to go to the dealer to enable that feature for the Dension. Does all of this make sense? Thanks so much in advance!! I will post pics when I get all of this bought/installed.
In all seriousness, unless you've got kids in the back seat with their own displays there is
no
reason
any
vehicle should have the ability to play movies.
BillK,
My CTS-V has DVD movie capability on the NAV unit while driving and it's just sweet!! I usually only use it to listen. It provides no more distraction than the NAV unit could/would. The bigger issue here is that I have it and I want it in my S. For you to dictate that there is no reason is simply crazy. Each person has their own opinion and their own preferences. I wont tell you how to drive if you wont tell me what I can do in my car
peace.
Suneet,
I'm going with the Dension 500 w/o bluetooth and using the aux-in port for my XM. That will be good enough for me. I hope the iphone charges while it's plugged in.
Off note:
I'm one of the original designers of the XBOX360. I did part of the microprocessor. Let's say I understand protocols.
I will say that there is no physical reason why a DVD player shouldn't play with our nav units. As a matter of fact, with a little bit of time, I could actually do it. MOST is the bus protocol and it's a very easy interface to design to. The CODEC to display the movies can be hardware or software. I'm guessing that the unit doesn't have hardware translation, but software will do it. I'm suspecting that's what folks do to get their units to watch DVDs. There are things we do in design that are built in, but not turned on. I suspect that's the case here. I dont think the dealer knows, but the designers do. It's usually very easy to turn on too
If I let my 6yo boy loose on it, I'm sure he'll figure it out in a few hours.

Here is a pretty sweet solution:
Is slated to come out the end of this month, beginning of june.
DoubleDin
DVD
Flash based navigation
USB with integrated iPod control (via voice option)
Bluetooth phone (yes iPhone address book finally works with this one + voice dial
Bluetooth audio player control (next gen iPHone will be capable)
XM radio (added module)
HD radio
SD slot for music and movies offload
external source input
Listening to music-awesome, talking on the phone-part of life today, shaving or putting on make up while driving-highly questionable, playing movies for the driver while driving-should be illegal.
Driving my CS it's all the sensory stimulation anyone should need.
Re: Pioneer unit
Gogoallen,
Granted that it does everything (good) but it doesn't match my CS(bad). I think it would stick out like a sore thumb. All Porsche and than BLUE knobs and stuff. The unit is sweet, and it does have everything functional, but ... ah... it seems like a big hammer for a small job. I wonder if other components on MOST would be picked up? I also wonder would it send it to the OBC port? Small details, but that is where the devil lives.
The aux-in port is nice, but sort of in the way. The wires would stick right out where my other controls are. I'm sure the USB port is hidden somewhere, and that is where the aux-in port should be too.
That unit would go well in other cars, but not in the CS. It's just too nice to break up the authentic interior with large aftermarket mods.
I do thank you for the post and I'm sure others would be interested. These are obviously personal preference and the data is nice to see regardless. This site is rock star!

Any other DVD movie bashers out there, please start your own thread with thoughts that convey what you want to say. See how many people go there and listen to your rants. These types of threads are constructive for people who want them. Your like a bad commerical in a DVD movie. Not related. Nobody wants to see it. Nobody. This site is spectacular and you only serve to degrade it with your out of topic remarks. There is a whole section on complaining... have at it..
You can change the color of the knob and interface to any color you desire. The major inputs are coming from the back of the head unit and hidden. My iPhone connects in the console. An extra aux a/v port in the front is for convenience, not everday use. If there is one thing you don't have to worry about doing is breaking up the "authentic interior". Porsche is excellent when it comes to exterior aesthetics but have a long way to go with the interiors, so when it comes to form over function, you are improving on both in this instance.
Wow, that looks like a really nice unit.
I'd love to get one of those for ipod/iphone integration.
That would also be cool if I could get a back up camera set up.
It is going to take the place of my Pioneer D3 with backup camera. Should swap out nicely. You can see my previous install here:

I'll be sure to put more up once I get the F series installed.
