Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I got both of mine fitted with the genuine replacements and regased for 500 quid including VAT.
Leading evidence: 'Install with the genuine replacements and regased' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check other things if you've not' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you use a place that doesn't use the oil, it will knacker some parts of the system (allegedly).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
It looks like one or both of my aircon condenser rads have blown - the system is still blowing cold air but is getting noisy.
Has anyone had this done recently and can advise actual costs?
I thought it was around £500 but I've had the following estimate:
Replace 2 x condenser
Replace desiccator
Pressure test and regas system
£750 + VAT
Cheers!
Phil
I think the system gets noisy when the gas needs recharging. This may be due to a condenser issue or a leak somewhere else; In my case from the front to rear pipe at the joint just behind the door. New joint and regass and all was back to normal. So worth checking other things if you've not already.
Im sure I was told that the condensers were made by BEHR (?) and could be bought direct for a lot less that the opc part. Someone on here will know or call Porscheshop or Euro Car parts.
Isn't it the case that if you have any leak at all, all of the gas escapes in seconds - and therefore the system won't cool? And I agree with mathamb that noises won't come out of the condensers, just the compressor.
The condensers aren't noisy in themselves but there is a definite whine when the aircon is on now - very noticeable at idle.
It was in for a service the other day and the garage said both the rads were "blown".
I assume the noise is because some gas has escaped as the aircon still works - I don't know why it hasn't all gone.
Maybe I should buy a can of stuff and top up the refrigerant to see what happens?
I looked at the rads for sale by design911 and there are 3 different type with a huge range of prices.
Cheers,
Phil
With a leak it can just be a pin hole size. Mine took about three months before the compressor became noisy and whined particularly at idle. You could hear it from the engine bay (compressor and at the front of the dash as the pipes vibrate under the plastic cover to the right of the battery wich is where you access the system to recharge it.
And even then the air was still cooled (difficult to tell this time of year given the ambient temp).
I noticed a tiny damp patch on the pipe by the door but it was bright green (refrigerant colour - easy to spot.)
I dont think you can top up the refrigerant yourself as it has to be evacuated and then refilled under a vacuum or pressure cant reember which. Kwikfit will do it for about £50.
A specialist will fill it with a light sensitive fluid and then examine it for leaks be it pipes or condensers with a special torch ( like ultra violet..may even be ultra violet)
There is oil in with the gas, so its not something you can do yourself. If you use a place that doesn't use the oil, it will knacker some parts of the system (allegedly).
Here is
a great thread on BoXa.net
which includes detailed postings from an aircon engineer.
