This release cable, will i be able to access it by just running my hand under the arch or is it hidden behind the lining and therefore requires removing?

Good morning Richard i was running a search on my issue and it brought up a discussion where you provided a diagram for someone re: wiring, so i was wondering if you had any pics or if you know where i can download.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, It's Sat night and it would appear the cable has decided to let go for the bonnet release and as a result i'm unable to close it securely. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In addition does anyone know what sort of cost is involved for repairing this. Thanks in advance. D.

POST 2Original post

In the short term you can close it there is an emergency release cable, In the offside wheelarch I believe?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the quick response. I've had experience with this secret release mechanism about 6 months ago as i had the AA out and they couldn't find it then. I will take another look.

POST 4Original post

If you have cable releases, the emergency cable is in the NEARSIDE wheel arch, near the headlight unit. They moved the emergency release cable to the offside when electric releases were introduced.

Beat me to it Richard Just checked PET and saw it was drivers side

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks chaps. And does anyone have a rough idea what sort of cost is involved in repairing this - OPC and Indie?

POST 7Original post

The release cable itself is £24.24+VAT, but I expect that changing it could be a bit of a marathon. There doesn't seem to be a Porsche book time for doing the job, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a couple of hours or more. Maybe one of the indies who post here have got some experience.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard, i shall look into it.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning Richard i was running a search on my issue and it brought up a discussion where you provided a diagram for someone re: wiring, so i was wondering if you had any pics or if you know where i can download. Also would a workshop manual cover the repair of this and if so do you know where i can get my hands on a copy? Many thanks, Darren

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apologies if this has been submitted before but i've just come across this link and thought it may be useful. http://www.cannell.co.uk/996_Workshop_Manuals/996 Wiring 1999-2000.pdf

POST 11Original post

Morning Darren. The manuals on Rick Canell's site are OK, but rather out of date. If you look in section 55 you will see how to remove and refit the cable at the front, and at the lever end, but I'm damned if I can find anywhere which shows the route of the cable.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found section 55 but it refers to post 2001 cars with the electric switches. Unfortunately i'm unable to find any info on pre 2000 models with cable system. As for my situ, I'm sure the cable has come away from the lever end so logic would suggest i start at that end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This release cable, will i be able to access it by just running my hand under the arch or is it hidden behind the lining and therefore requires removing?

POST 14Original post

It's behind the liner - in the area of the headlight. Not easy when it's cold, as the plastic is hard, but you can sometimes ease the liner away from the arch and squeeze your hand in there.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard, i really appreciate all ur help and i'll let you know if i'm successful or not!!
