Had a suspicion it was the compressor, but in the diagram they have it shown also, albeit within the wheel.
Leading evidence: 'compressor' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'compressor' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). However, if you are changing the head unit, why bother with a CD Changer at all?

If it is the CDR22 which uses the CDC-3 changer, then I understand the Sony CDX-T62 is compatible.

Personally, I have the toolkit and compressor IN the spare wheel and use the outer space for storage of trangle, spare top-up oil, windscreen wash concentrate, jack, extra CDs in a wallet etc
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Apologies if this is blatantly obvious -
Where does the cd changer mechanism get installed in a facelift 996 carrera 4 cab?
According to the manual, there's a 'box' displayed to the right hand side of the spare wheel under the 'floor' - but it is curiously not referenced.
Is it fitted directly into the luggage compartment?
I don't want to further compromise the limited space I have (just about accommodates the baby seat).
Could anyone shed some light?
Cheers
The box on the right of the spare wheel (under the "false floor") in the handbook diagram is the "suggested" location of the spare wheel compressor (along with tool lit to the left and warning triangle to the front)
The reason I say "suggested" is two fold, there is no specific inset/holder for the items above (they are loose) and secondly, from memory the newer design spare is too big to accommodate the compressor to the side, it can go on a corner diagonal though.

Good call!
Had a suspicion it was the compressor, but in the diagram they have it shown also, albeit within the wheel. All rather confusing Porsche...
Your suggestions are top class.

I've sent you a couple of PMs regarding the CD changer device, hope you don't mind.
Thanks once again.
Kenwood Cd Changer compatibility
Hi
Does anyone know if the Kenwood CD Changer will fit in the C4 'slot' or have Porsche made it to fit only Becker systems?
Cheers
What head unit do you have? If it is the CDR22 which uses the CDC-3 changer, then I understand the Sony CDX-T62 is compatible. If you have a CR23, then it has the dreaded MOST fibre optic connection to the CD changer, and your only choice is a genuine CDC-4 unit.
CD compatibility
Cheers Richard
It is indeed the CDR-22 at present, however, I am in the process of upgrading to a double-din Kenwood system. The CDR-22 will be replaced as a consequence.
The head-unit I have seen is a Kenwood, and I thought that it would be prudent to pair it up with a Kenwood CD Changer? Not sure if it fits though?
The Kenwood CD Changers are buttons compared to the official Porsche ones on ebay!
I think most 6-CD changers would fit the slot. However, if you are changing the head unit, why bother with a CD Changer at all? It is 2009! Get an iPod compatible head unit, and tuck an iPod somewhere in the car. You can probably get a decent iPod a lot cheaper than a CD changer, and it will give you a lot more storage, and be much more versatile. Get with it!
Compatibility
lol!
Indeed!
I actually have an ipod, and am fully intending hooking it up to the head-unit.
The method, in my apparent madness, is that I can store my kids CDs in the Changer, thus freeing up my ipod for my own tunes.
Can't be hitting 'shuffle' and have to endure 'jelly on a plate' or 'i like to eat, eat, eat, apples and bananas'...
You know it makes sense.
Cheers for heads-up though.
Double Din & compatibility with CD changers etc.
Wow!
I can't believe it's been three months since this post!
Where has the time gone...?
Apologies for ridiculous delay in responding Richard.
I am actively looking for the Double Din unit now. I've decided on Kenwood 7240 BT, and am still (rather eccentrically I admit) going to hook it up with a CD changer from Kenwood.
I'm still not entirely sure if the Kenwood 10 CD will fit the slot.
I've noticed the slot is 'sealed' just now with a plastic lid, albiet punctured in the shape of the hole beyond. Considering my misgivings previously with the wheel versus screwdriver fiasco, I'd imagine the cutting out of the lid is a job best left to experts, perhaps?
Hope you're well
David
