Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, I was wondering whether anyone has chipped their 996 Turbo Manual and what the result has been. I have heard that not only is performance much better but also the fuel economy as well I am based in London and am considering chipping the car in the New Year. Also an idea of cost would be good. Does anyone know whether you need to upgrade the clutch or can the standard one deal with the increased power? Cheers Nick

POST 2Original post

lots of threads on here and Ph re this subject here is the latest one from memory. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=49416 you wont need to upgrade your clutch

POST 3Original post

and here with a little video clip as well http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=49405

POST 4Original post

....an exhaust and remap will set you back about £2,500 If your clutch is good the std one will handle about 480/500BHP....unless your really harsh with it. Your clutch life will be reduced though(by approx 10k miles) but the smile on your face will be worth it :thumb:

POST 5Original post

Coincidence, I was talking today with someone who recommends Ray West in Andover (depends what side of London you are maybe) Thinks he would remap mine for about a grand (I already have aftermarket exhaust) Apparently will do a race package including half cage that lets you keep back seats for about 5k. http://www.west-tuning.com/

POST 6Original post

I think AMD specialise in Porsche maps :?: I know it's not the same thing but I had an Audi TT mapped at AMD & was inpressed with the gains & power curve. They should be able to work wonders with a 996 TT  http://www.amdtechnik.com/

POST 7Original post

Mine (previous owner) was enhanced by DMS Automotive and they claim ECU upgrade took power from 420 to 502 BHP and with the exhaust and manifolds making a total of 547BHP. Awesome and later this year will get it on a rolling road to check the claims. No complaints, certainly returns very acceptable mpg and standard clutch works well. Also suggest you talk with Peter Bedford at GT One Ltd in Chertsey.......vast experience and one of the best independents around. Have fun!!!
