Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Checked, re-assembled, and double checked over and over mate!
Leading evidence: 'Check over and over mate' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check internal connector strip, hard' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Fitted the bulbs, re-assembled the cluster and found that my gauges are not working

Suggestion
Remove cluster, seperate carefully as you did before, check the internal connector strip, hard to describe but quite obvious when in front of you.

I had to replace 2 faulty bulbs, which arrived in today's post.

Suggestion
Not easy to re-seat but I have found the best way is to push them back down as flat as you can then lightly warm the solder with a solder iron (use the 2 - 3mm flat end if you have changable heads) the old solder on the board will suddenly melt, the trick is not to let it run across more terminal tracks, just get it to stick to what it was originally contacted to.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Removed and disassembled my instrument cluster on my 99 C2 tiptronic.
I had to replace 2 faulty bulbs, which arrived in today's post.
Fitted the bulbs, re-assembled the cluster and found that my gauges are not working
The rear part with the LCD screens are working fine.
What should I do?
Anyone got any experience of

Really don't want to have to fork out for a new unit.
Where are you in the UK? I am Worcestershire DY10,11 & 12 area, if willing to travel I will take a look for you. I have done quite a few of these.
However if you live on the moon and too far to travel try this:
Remove cluster, seperate carefully as you did before, check the internal connector strip, hard to describe but quite obvious when in front of you.
The thin plastic, circuitry (SP?) is pinched into this connector strip and often slides out slightly on one side, simply carefully pinch between thumb and finger gently working it back in level then carefully put back together.
I will do it on a Saturday or Sunday if you are unsure... should take me about 1 hour, call it a beer! :thumb:
Lloyd
Lloyd - many thanks for the offer but I'm in Northern Ireland unfortunately!
I have taken a picture of the inside of the cluster - whereabouts do you mean?
Cheers!
-OR-
Take it off and post it to me, I will see if I can sort it (I have a car to use as a rig to test it after) and I will post it back
Worst case senario - Ebay, GCSC, Porshapart, Jamsmine etc for a replacement *Ensure same transmission type and same colour plugs on rear - Blue, White and Black etc*
Should set you back about £100, then get mileage correction by someone like
www.fixmymileage.com
see... I said the moon!!
Ok, yours looks different to what I thought..
Can you take some photos of the other half (I mean the cluster!)
It will help me try to suss it out
Cheers
Lloyd

The solder seems to have come away from the circuit a little on each side due to excessive movement
A little!
you hand fisted munsta... did you use a crowbar to seperate it?
Joking apart, you've sussed it.. panic over.
