Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Even in the short time they had they managed to get an indication of the problem - something to do with the exhaust gasses running richer on one side than the other, which is causing the engine sensors to mis-read the situation.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I've searched through the various threads, but not found anyone who's had the same symptoms as myself... Tonight I put in £30's worth of BP 'Premium' petrol, and went for a drive. About 20 minutes in, whilst crusing at 70mph on the motorway, my engine warning light came on, there was about 10 seconds of me repeating "oh *****, oh *****" and then it went off again. Now I could be a bit paranoid, but I thought it was idling roughly (I was feeling slightly shaken about at idle), but I could've been looking too hard for problems. I wound down the windows and it all sounded fine. From the other threads I've read, most people had a problem with the light staying on. Could it just have been a blip, or should I go and get it checked out? As ever, your advice is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Sounds like MAF or damp coil packs - take it to get the codes read they still should be in there.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info. I take it most indie's have the correct kit to read codes?

POST 4Original post

Mine stayed on and flashed - that's the worst case apparently - and sure enough the engine was wrecked. If it makes an amateurish attempt at flashing only a few times you're probably OK. Cheers

Yes I see your in manchester give mike a call at wwwsportsandclassic.com just down the road in mobberley

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all, I took the car over to Hartech on Saturday. I only made it an hour before they closed, but they confirmed that there was a problem (cylinders 4 & 6 weren't firing properly). It was an odd situation, at idle there was a problem, but when being pushed it was absolutely fine. Even in the short time they had they managed to get an indication of the problem - something to do with the exhaust gasses running richer on one side than the other, which is causing the engine sensors to mis-read the situation. Further investigation is required, but hopefully it'll not be too serious/expensive... especially as I've *just* gotten the car back.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Balls. The engine needs to come out. Compression on cylinder 4 is at about 50PSI, whereas it's about 250PSI on the others. On the bright side, I'm at least on the Hartech maintenance plan, and I have got 3 months warranty on the engine from the company I bought it from (PCT). So hopefully I'll be able to get it resolved without too much expense. Still, not a brilliant start to Porsche ownership :nooo:
