I also blamed the Pirellis for some wobble that I had early on, but it turned out that I had a rim that was not true - once the dealer replaced the front rims, the car has driven like a dream.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, As most, I am running about 5,000 miles on my rear Pirellis before they wear out. I have pretty much come to hate them, but the front's are still like new. So, I guess getting new rears this last time makes most sense. I will also have the toe-in checked as it does seem exagerated and probably is leading to this type of wear. Has anybody seen a great deal on a set of Pirelli 265 or 285 18's? If so, please let me know. I need to find a great deal... Thanks, Geert

POST 2Original post

Your alignment is bad unless you are doing some heavy track work or drifting the car!! Seriously, you should be getting way more than 5,000 miles on a set of rear tires.

POST 3Original post

I have 5,000 miles on my Pirellis and I have a ton of tread left on the rears - I had the car aligned when I put them on and I keep the rears at 42 pounds cold. I also blamed the Pirellis for some wobble that I had early on, but it turned out that I had a rim that was not true - once the dealer replaced the front rims, the car has driven like a dream. Moral of the story: I agree with Ray and don't blame the tires.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the input. I will have the alignment checked as it is visibly very agressive. As for the wear itself; this is the second set of rears that I go through in 12,000 miles. Don't drift or peel out...

POST 5Original post

I looked under my car again this morning after driving into work, with this post in mind. I haven't put a depth gauge to them, but they look very similar to when they were brand new and there's no evidence of uneven treadwear. I'm not tracking the car, but I definitely like to accelerate quickly and keep my RPMs up with some spirited driving. What PSI do you normally run in the rear tires?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was running factory at first (44psi?) on the previous set, and dropped it to about to 42 on this set. Both wore ridiculously fast. The only thing I can imagine is that the toe-in is way silly. I will have it checked and post when I find out. Thanks for the thoughts.
