There is a company in the US called Veloce Performance that can add circa 10% overall powerand they have great reviews, but I wondered if anyone has used anyone else more local (I am in London) but would consider UK.

In terms of dynamics or indeed effective use of that power (carrying speed through bends etc) the Porsche is a sports car and the Merc is not.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, I am a new Porsche Owner and also new to this forum. Prior to the Porsche Carrera 4S that I have, I had a mercedes CL55 AMG, which was a remarkable car. On the 0-60 (on paper at least) the CL55 is faster than the Porsche so I was keen to chip the Porsche. There is a company in the US called Veloce Performance that can add circa 10% overall powerand they have great reviews, but I wondered if anyone has used anyone else more local (I am in London) but would consider UK. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you ! Hardeep

POST 2Original post

Hi Hardeep. I'm presuming your C4S is the 997 model? If so, is it still within warranty? If you want to keep it that way, I believe your only option would be to go for the PowerKit option which only an OPC can do. Anything out of this would void your warranty immediately. Beware though that the PowerKit is a fairly pricy option (around £8k). If you have a Gen I model, the power is raised to 385bhp with the PowerKit. If you have a Gen II model, I believe the power is around 410bhp. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

With due respect to the Porsche product (well this is a Porsche forum), even with a 2ish tonne kerb weight, the CL55 AMG with destroy a normally aspirated 911 (certainly in-gear). 0-60mph is despatched in 4.4 secs. The fact is a supercharged 5.5 litre V8 produces not only much more power than the NA 3.8 F6, but it is the gearbox eating torque that that engine musters that is incredible (700 NM or 516 lbft). The forced induction creates a swept volume equivalent to NA 9.9 Litres! However, even with a PowerKit conversion (+26 BHP), there is no way with 381 BHP it will feel close to the CL55. The 408 BHP PowerKit is only available on the GenII 3.8 DFI (385 BHP standard)

POST 4Original post

Should have bought a Turbo if it's more power you wanted. They are already really quick but there are tuners out there that can get lots more power from them. You're pretty much stuck with what you've got otherwise. It's not all bad though, take it on the next Nurburgring trip next year and you'll soon see how good they are even without huge amounts of power.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More power.... Guys, Thanks for the feedback so far - very helpful. Maxie - I have the 996 Porsche - its 2004 and out of manufacturers warranty - so frankly I'm relaxed with what I do to it, as long as it doesn't harm the engine. To be perfectly crude - I get an array of different quotes on chip, and perhaps, some false promises. In the US, they are charging around £1,000. In the UK the price seems to vary between £800 - £3,000 (so I've been told) and if I gave the chip to my polish builder he'd get it done for circa £150 in Poland (not going for that option!) GT4 - you are right on the Cl55. It was a different class and I'll definitely have to buy one again in the future one day... To be honest though, the 911 is much more fun to drive. The CL was raw power straight line, but once you got to bends or corners, the road holding, whilst very good, was not like the Porshe. Also on paper (at least in the book), the C4S is 4.9 secs 0-60, whereas the Cl is 4.8 secs. I think this is fairly accurate as I've had a few 0-60's of the lights with M3's and we are neck and neck (and an M3 I believe books in at 4.8 aswell (not the brand new one)). So regarding chipping the 911 I've got, whatever I get added, is fine. Just wondered if anyone has any experience or recommendations... MQ - Hopefully when I save enough - I'll buy the 997 turbo S tiptronic with a 0-60 of 3.6 secs !!! , but for now - it's the C4S !

POST 6Original post

HRC4S, as you original question was re: simply power comparison, that is how I responded. In terms of dynamics or indeed effective use of that power (carrying speed through bends etc) the Porsche is a sports car and the Merc is not. Hence Porsche wins in that department. Raw power and torque goes to Merc. Which is more "fun" depends on your own personal tastes (some people even ride bikes ) PS - the book 0-62 is 4.8s, the 0-60 is 4.4s. and I did specify "in-gear" as the destruction method! (not sure on the scientific validity of "0-60" road racing)

POST 7Original post

Design 911 has some nice performance cold air intakes which may release a few bhp and fitting a PSE would be a great addition for sound. More extreme would be to fit lighter wheels and strip out all the interior and replace the drivers seat with a carbon Recaro. Remove all the electric motors and replace glass with plastic... That should be good for 200+bhp. :dont know:
