Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

....and it not the bulb
The car is in with OPC at present, not for this particular issue but they noticed the reverse lights do not work and the bulbs/switches/wiring looks ok.
- The pointed that it is likely to be the switch knackered (located within the gearbox)but not sure if it sold separately.
Can someone advise on the part number and price for the for this please?(tip)
Is this an easy DIY?
Thanks

Is the fuse ok? I keep losing my reversing lights as they are on the same circuit as the mirror adjustment motors which keep blowing the fuse, might be worth checking.
A word of warning.
The lights failed on the Jaguar, it was summer and it didn't seem to matter much.
On the rare occasions they were needed putting rear fogs and hazards on gave illumination and a disco feel. I planned get them fixed prior to winter but ... "What the hell - the expense can wait".
The expense that didn't wait was the bodywork repair after I reversed into an unseen low wall at night.
Doh! :wall:
Thanks guys for the response - The car in question is a 2003 996.

Richard - Thanks for your response. Maybe we are discussing a different part. An indy quoted 168.50+vat for the "inhibitor switch" - After the OPC mentioned the "part" may not be sold separately but packaged with the shifter (£912 for the part)....

I assumed it was a manual - is yours tiptronic? If so, then the reversing switch is attached to the multi-function switch on the bottom of the lever. I don't think you can buy it separately, but I'll look it up.
I just noticed the (tip) in your first post - sorry!
It isn't clear from the parts diagram or workshop manual if the multi-function switch is changeable as a separate unit, or if the reversing light switch is integral to the m-f switch or lever housing.
Maybe Mike knows..........
Hi,
Switch is built into the bottom of selector lever it is available seperate from the lever. It is part of the multi function switch for the lever and the reverse light switch is simply 2 copper contacts that touch together when reverse is selected, part number is 996 613 212 10 £74.96 plus VAT would take approx 1.5hours to change.
Mike

Mike - Thanks for your info. We have spoken before, Its a shame your a little far off - You input is much appreciated.
