Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Anyway, the car had an Autofarm 'Silsleeve' replacement engine fitted around 12k miles ago, just prior to us buying it, at a cost of around £11k.

After 2 years of very enjoyable ownership, its time for a change.....coinciding with a possible, full-time move to France.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

......the wife's '99 Cabrio.
After 2 years of very enjoyable ownership, its time for a change.....coinciding with a possible, full-time move to France. Just wondering where to pitch the price. We paid.....er.....too much, with the benefit of hindsight, but I'm not bothered about the horrendous depreciation we've got to bear, really......I'm not!
Anyway, the car had an Autofarm 'Silsleeve' replacement engine fitted around 12k miles ago, just prior to us buying it, at a cost of around £11k. Mechanically, its in very good order, full history (OPC till around 60k, then PorscheTech in Meriden, 75k now recorded). Just had new suspension arms at the front, 4-wheel alignment done with new 'N' Pirellis all round and a full service.
Zenith blue with blue hood, Tiptronic, Metropole blue ruffled interior, cruise control, 18" split rims (think they're the Sport Classics), full electric seats with driver's memory, overmats, multi CD with Pioneer head unit, wind deflector etc).
The car's been used as a daily driver, in all weathers, its never been a polished-to-death pet! Consequently, there's the odd mark on the paint, the wheels were refurbished when we first got the car but could do with doing again really, no scuffs, just the usual bits of corrosion. The interior's good, again, the odd mark on the leather, but no tears or anything nasty....and the little girl broke the centre console lid last week!
For a laugh, I put the car into 'We Buy Any Car.com'......£10,650!
Having said that, we'd want a very quick sale now that the decision's been made. What do you guys think?
Pete
I know many on here will disagree with me but I would pitch between £15 to £17.5k
Reason:
I was thinking of buying another Boxster for the summer as I had seen 3.2S models with ok miles and colours drop below 10k, look again and I can not find a single Speed Yellow 3.2S with ok miles and history below 15k!!! They have rocketed all of a sudden. The 996 dropped but didn't break the under 10k barrier (unless it was Pink with Orange seats, CatC write off!) infact the lowest priced big miles cars with low spec still hovered around 12k. The 996 has also climbed back up to where it would have been before the credit crunch, hence my pitch 15-17.5
Lloyd
I'd agree with that - the redone engine is a bonus but not many people seem to be prepared to pay much of a premium for it.
I would perhaps spend a few £££s making it as clean and tidy as possible because this seems the key to an easy sale.
Good luck,
Phil
I agree, re-furbing the wheels & a full detail may set you back £250 but a typical case of speculate to acumilate here.
With the 996 your punter is normally a mid 30's gent (like me) who wants to live out the childhood dream.... this is a dream that allows for not much fault.
The last few cars I have sold have been 350z roadster, Honda S2000, MR2 Roadster and a Porsche Boxster. All of them were detailed up to the hilt.
It makes the sale so much easier when you see the 'wow' in their face. Love the fact they cannot tyre kick and make negative comment.
Although, this will make you laugh... the Boxster was unbelievably clean and faultless advertised at £13995, the 1st person to see it could not fault it so he made the follow comment in attemp to knock it down in price:
"Trouble is mate, I don't like Silver cars and I ain't much on the Blue of the hood... will yer take £10000?"
I just stood there with a blank expression, I couldn't even be bothered to answer him back.
Hmmmm. Take on board what you say about sprucing it up, but I wonder if there'd be someone out there looking for a bargain buy.....say, £13k? for mega-quick sale......who could then fettle it to their heart's content?
TBH, I think that's the way we'd want to go....so many things to sort out....so little time!
Pete
I had a similar thing with my Range Rover - didn't have the time or energy to spruce it up properly so advertised it below every equivalent car but still had a parade of idiots offering me £000's less than the asking price.
I probably wasted more time in hindsight talking to these muppets than I would have done sorting the few bits out.
A 'tatty' (sorry if that's a bit strong - haven't seen it) exterior will also ring alarm bells with a lot of people who may think it's not been loved.
When I bought mine it was the best example I'd seen by a mile and I bought it pretty much on the spot. I did look at a sorry one that was £2k cheaper but just didn't know what else I would find beyond the obvious.
Good luck whichever way you go :thumb:
Cheers,
Phil
Most detaillers have the ability to do the rims aswel.
Get it booked in, they will even collect it, get it sorted within 48 hours and back to you looking twice as desirable.
Then find a local showroom that specialises in exotic, let them have the car, tell them you want £14000 out of the dea but need it sold within 6 weeks... watch what happens.
You don't say the mileage, but if you are only looking for £13k, I would have though a dealer might be interested at that price. I always find 911virgin are a good indicator of mid-market dealers, and they have a 1998 cab on their site at £17k/£19k.
Good luck with the re-sale.

Also tips re
insurance
as most insurance to drive other cars is third party and most 911 policies, named drivers only.
Thanks all.
hi,
re
insurance
- clearly state to any potential buyers to bring original insurance certicate and photo id, certificate should be fully comp to the value of your car, quick call to the insurance company prior to check validity... failing that insist buyer takes out a 1 day tempcover.com policy, buy instantly online - I use it alot and pretty good value, covers non owned cars, no more than 1 claim last 12 months cover upto £40k, nice and simple. Serious buyers wont mind £30-50 charge
