Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The clutch was replaced in Jan 09 and I bought it in May and I have only done 3k sensible miles since then.

I did fancy Michellins but replacing the fronts when they are nearly new is a bit extravagent.

Trouble is, ideally you would really need to change the fronts as well.

I still stick to the same N code and brand for all 4 tyres myself but the Americans are more adventurous and a lot don't even use N code tyres.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Need a couple of 255/40 17. Currently got Continentals all round. Thinking of getting something else, as long as they are the same N2 as the fronts, is this ok? I assume you can't have N2's on the front and N3's on the back?
Had a look and the cheapest are about £140 each. Any suggestions of other cheap places out there?
Thanks :thumb:
Each progression in N code for indicates an update of that tyre model. If you follow Porsche rules then you should have the same brand with the same N code on all the tyres. Depending on how you drive, if it is very sprited and you hit max speed daily then it is probably not a bad rule to follow. If however you use the car like I do where it is you daily car and every so often you give it an Italian tune up, as long as the brands and N code on each axle tally then you should be fine. I still stick to the same N code and brand for all 4 tyres myself but the Americans are more adventurous and a lot don't even use N code tyres. Just to make it clear Pirelli N2 tyres are not the same as Continental N2 tyres. It just means it is the 2nd update of each one. Some Pirelli ones have reached N4 but Continental SportContact2 stopped at N2
If you are anywhere near Surrey, everyone will tell you to go to Martin's Tyres in West End, Woking 01276 856 846. They are 2 minutes from Junction 3 of the M3 and you will not find cheaper tyres! I don't know them, but strongly recommend them, as do many others.
If you are too far away,
www.blackcircles.com
are pretty good value and fit near you.
Thanks for the replies. So far Quickfit are the cheapest! Blackcircle are £20 more.
£280 all in for two 255/40 17 Continentals N2. I'll try the place by the M3. Blackcircle are £20 more. :thumb:
Cheapest place I've found is Martins Tyres at £135, however any saving over Kwick Fit will be lost in petrol/time. :dont know:
I did fancy Michellins but replacing the fronts when they are nearly new is a bit extravagent. The rears have only lasted about 4k!
If you have gone through a set of rears in 4,000 miles, I reckon the premium for the Michelin tyres will pale into insignificance when you have your new clutch fitted... :?:

The clutch was replaced in Jan 09 and I bought it in May and I have only done 3k sensible miles since then. The previous owner must of tracked it as he only did about 1500m in the year before I bought it. :?:
Sounds to me that your wheels are in desperate need of a geo and are either toe'd or feathering.
If it's driven relatively normally, you should get at least 8k out of your rears.
