I'm planning on buying the Pioneer AVIC-F10BT to be installed with the Double Din Kit from Euro Motorspeed (

I chopped up the old climate control surround to fill the space.

Could someone who has replaced their original head unit with a double din unit post a picture of how it looks as I'm interested in doing this but would like to see how it looks before deciding to change.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I'm thinking of moving the climate controls from above the radio to the place where the CD storage is. I then want to fit a double din headunit into the hole left by the climate and the existing radio slot. Has anyone ever done this before. Does anyone know if you can buy the surround for the climate controls when fitted below the radio (as per cars with sat nav)?
Gavin
I've done this as have quite a few others.
All the pieces that you need are available from your dealer for a few pounds.

I've got the Pioneer unit and I'm very pleased with it
I did this too, Pioneer Avic F900BT is a very good unit, does leave a gap of about 8mm between the head unit and the heater vents though. I chopped up the old climate control surround to fill the space.
You do have to trim a few bits and pieces of the dash to fit it in but don't be scared! We fitted mine in an hour at lunchtime..
Fitted a nice Kenwood unit myself and unlike one of the Pioneer systems, that needs a CD running if you want to run satnav, runs the maps off it's own internal hard disk, much better imho as you can play your music when you want to go somewhere new.
You will though need to drive your speakers via cross-overs to match the head unit and speaker impedences. These are tricky to get hold of, but not impossible...........
Ray
Ive done this as well. Relatively easy job moving the temp unit and only about £3 for the new surround! You will probably need a new cubby hole box for the lower console too (less than £25).
If you go for a double din be aware that the slot in the Porsche is taller than a standard double din slot so a custom piece of trim is required. I bought one of these from the US and it is excellent and exactly the same colour and texture as the rest of the console. Unfortunately - it doesnt fit my head unit which is slightly larger than normal but it will fit most units such as the Pioneer.
Im going to return it for a refund and make my own surround but if you are interested Id rather post to England than the US. Privately mail me if you want to know more.
Its a great mod by the way. Mine includes satnav and bluetooth handsfree which works excellently.
That must be an older Pioneer unit there Ray, mine can do Nav, live traffic, bluetooth phone call and play radio, ipod, cd or music from an SD card all at the same time! Though you cannot watch a dvd movie at the same time as looking at the map, unlike that Range Rover on Top Gear - did you see that!!!! 8)
That was very cool.
I've got an F900BT too. Have you found avic411.com yet? Loads of really good hacks to customise the unit. Sorted my phone book synchronisation, and a much better screen layout in map mode. There is also a really good modification for the speed camera warnings.

Many Thanks
FRM70
I did have a look at that when I first got the unit, I love the idea of the custom screens but I couldn't figure out how to get them from that forum to my Avic, any tips?
I'm not computer friendly enough, that's why I can't post a pic for FRM70 either as my pics are too large and I don't know how to resize them..
c: :?
Thanks for the reply Whaletail , I have just searched the forum under Pioneer and have found some pictures of Double Din install's , they do look good but I think I will find someone in Sussex to fit it for me as I struggle wiring a plug
Cheers
You do need to be fairly computer savvy to modify the settings. The system is based on Windows CE, and you can make a boot SD-card to start it up to a Windows desktop, instead of the Pioneer 'desktop'. Once you have done that, you can copy files from the card (previously downloaded from the forum) onto the flash disk inside the Avic. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, probably best leave well alone...
And here's one or two I have posted before .......

By the way, the kit also have the surrounding trim for relocating the air con unit
I've already bought the kit, so now I'm saving up for the Avic
Here's some pic's of what I'm expecting:
