Anyone know a used TT sports exhaust system for sale?

Im on the lookout for anyone selling or changing their 996TT sports exhaust boxes/cats. Or indeed if you are aware of one for sale. The new systems seem somewhat overpriced. Condition, age, make etc are all factors for discussion or negotiation. Cheers in advance!

Was searching ebay and came across this Sommerfeld modified standard unit. Has anyone tried them? I had a set of Oettles on my C2 and loved them. Best mod I made to it in real terms and in value terms. The Sommerfeld systems seemed identical. Now does one for the turbo. Modifies yours for £550 or sells one to you ready made for £1,200. Gert Carwewal also does a modification to the Turbo exhaust, replacing the cats and making it sound a but more roarty. One of the guys on PCGB has it done to his Turbo S, but I don't know the cost.

Basically seems to be about £350 more than the Sommerfeld system but with new 100 cell cats. Sounds like a worthwhile step up if the cats are added. Plus it looks like the standard item so no insurance declaration required. Anyone tried one?

I had a Ruf system on my tt. It was a modified std system with 200 cell cats. OK,so you don't get the weight saving with a modded one but if the technique is good enough for Ruf then i'd be happy with it. I'd definitely look for one with modded cats as this is where you are going to get most of the performance gains from, ie less back pressure. The Ruf system was approx $6k in the US, so £900 is a good deal as the Carnewal one can't be much different. It could even be from the same people....

Senoj, I know each manufacturer's/converter's exhaust will be different but how did the RUF modified standard exhaust sound?

I didn't realise the std one had a drone until I changed but it does, it's low down but there. so at cruising speeds the Ruf one was actually quieter, that was the first thing I noticed, then, under acceleration, slightly higher pitched and I'd say about 15% louder if you can imagine what that is :lol: The big noticeable difference was less lag and more grunt from about 4k. Which I think is primarily the difference in the cats. €5k + vat from their site, frankly way too much brand tax on that. Unless there's some real magic in there that they don't tell you about I wouldn't pay that much (I got mine used btw). I'm just advocating the modded std option as potentiality a very viable one.

I didn't think Mike had got the sound quite right yet? (that's what he said when I last spoke to him this week :?: ) Anyway, does yours sound ok? No resonance at speed etc? Oh, and what was the cost, if you don't mind. :wink:

I'm running the protoype - sound is definatley louder than standard and no droning in the cabin. I think the price is around £650

Does that include a change of the cats into 100 or 200 cell ?

Hi, As Simon says he's is the prototype and whilst he is happy with the system, I feel there is still more to be had from the system! We will be trying to get another version done by christmas with a few more modifications, we have not altered the catalytic converters at all just left them standard for the time being. We will be offering this service in the new year for everyone once I am 100% happy and can publish the noise levels. Mike
