Fabspeed header is ok but about 30% less power than Milltek header (I own and tested both systems).

Milltek, so I don't know what the dollar/hp ratio is for each but in each dyno test the Milltek headers have outperformed the Fabspeed headers regardless of which catback system was used.

So the good tuners spend a LOT of time creating different versions and testing until they lock in on what works best.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With the track season just around the corner I thought I'd add some extra power to my Cayman S.
I'm a Canadian CS owner, live in Toronto and on Thursday I ordered the following from Pfaff Tuning in Newmarket:
Fabspeed Headers and Exhaust
GIAC chip
Evo cold air intake
My install date is April 12th and I'll be doing pre and post-dyno runs so we can all view the performance gains from this system. Additionally, I'll be sure to take pictures during the modification process for all to see.
Does anyone have a similar set-up they can share their experiences from? I'd like to hear some thoughts with regards to performance gains & sounds.
Matt
Can you dyno each component separately? There has been some question as of late about the Fabspeed headers losing HP and we are trying to get some more independent tests to verify if that is the case or not. If you could have your shop do a dyno, then install the headers only and dyno again that would be cool.
Ma-T-Boy,
I live in the Toronto area and have done the same mods you ar looking to do. I've got the Fabspeed headers (with a custom version of the stock exhaust), GIAC ECU flash, and the EVO intake. I did the work in stages, so I have no dyno results to support the changes, but from my arse's perspective, each mod resulted in a subtle but noticeable improvement in performance - but nothing that I could quantify.
I am a little curious and concerned to hear that the Fabspeed headers may actually cause a power loss. That certainly wasn't my sense after installation, but maybe I had convinced myself that there was going to be an improvement, so I was in denial about the real result. I hope that's not the case, but if you before/after dyno the Fabspeed installation that would be very interesting - and hopefully comforting.
Overall, the package of mods you are going to do will give the CS a little more edge. I have no regrets. Are you getting the work done at Pfaff Tuning ?
Separate Dyno Tests
K-man,
I'll be having the work perfomed at Pfaff Tuning in Newmarket but unfortunately they don't have a dyno on site. I'll be doing the pre and post dyno runs at another shop, DL Motorsports, in Burlington, Ontario. As the Tuning division of Pfaff Porsche, the dealer I purchased my Cayman S from, I feel better warranty-wise that they do the installation rather than another shop. Using an outside shop for the dyno runs I feel will help ensure objectivity when measuring the results.
Sorry I can't dyno each part separately because I do think this would give us a good sense of the performance gains from each separate part and how they come together to form a cohesive system.
My install date is April 12, but I'll be doing the pre-dyno run this week so I'll be certain to post the results later in the week.
Matt
Ma-T-Boy,
Looking forward to your results. I haven't pulled the trigger on any mods yet, but based on my service experience with Pfaff, I think you are in good hands. I have found dealing with Downtown Porsche a painful experience.
Statix,
What you have to realize is that there is an IDEAL for the Cayman's exhaust depending upon what the engine is doing. The only way to come close to this ideal is to put a car on a dyno and make mods to the exhaust routing/plubming, cats, etc. to see what levels of backpressure are needed. Too much backpressure too restrictive and HP is lost, too little backpressure and combustion doesn't happen as it should/could and again HP is lost. So the good tuners spend a LOT of time creating different versions and testing until they lock in on what works best. From the independent dyno results of headers thus far it would appear that Milltek has gotten the closest to the ideal with their setup which includes cats. Headers without cats are not producing as much HP on the Cayman, as well as you have to de-program your O2 sensor which technically makes your car an off-road vehicle only by law (along with the removal of the cat). Some folks like to go headers with no cats, some like shiny headers, some like headers that produce the most HP and include cats.
i wonder what happen to me, i'm going to be using catless fabspeed + tubi ( no resonator) ....
i'm screwed...
how do i re program the o2 sensor anyway ?
Woooo Weeee...... That thing is going to be loud.
Deprogramming the O2 sensors can only be done with the PIWIS. Finding someone that will actually do it may prove tricky. And depending on your state, once done, you are unlikely to pass emmissions testing.
Since most tests show that headers without cats don't really perform any better than those with, you may want to consider using cats.
he's also chosen the least HP producing exhaust combo from the combos tested to date.
Then again, he may not care about HP and just be looking for looks or sound in which case yes he's going to have plenty of sound. Some ECU tuning software patches will shut off the O2 sensor, the only other option is to relocate the sensor.
i'm looking for sound by using tubi..
but the reason why i choose fabspeed is because i need more power and i need to alocate my expenses to other things...
but yeah... damn i took the wrong decission
will it be loud?? i'm afraid i might get pulled over... for emmision, i'm going to swap back to standard befor emission check
Tubi is known to be one of the louder systems. And eliminating the cats will make it significantly louder yet. So I would expect that thing to sound like a race car.....
I just hope all the reports that I've read about Tubi and Fabspeed headers are wrong, or you may find your top speed in the 140s now.....
Miltek Headers
So is there a consensus that the Milltek headers produce the best hp gains? I'd like to know because if this is the case I'd prefer to install Milltek headers instead of Fabspeed. Trying to get the best bang for my buck.
Matt
That is the consensus based on independent dyno testing. I don't recall what each set costs, Fabspeed vs. Milltek, so I don't know what the dollar/hp ratio is for each but in each dyno test the Milltek headers have outperformed the Fabspeed headers regardless of which catback system was used.
Baseline Dyno Results
Finished my baseline Dyno results this past Thursday and the results can be found in the link below.
Not really a techie so hopefully everyone can see the results via the link.
