Suggestion

C4S seemed to be a marketing consolidation of early 911 "S" variants which skipped the SC, 3.2 and 964 but then reappeared on the 993 as the C4S as the designation for the wide-bodied but normally aspirated variant that did run through the 3.2 and 964 models but were known as supersport and turbo-bodied variants respectively.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a quick question. Is the c4s and c2s the same except the 4x4 Are they both wide body, turbo wheels and brakes. thanks

POST 2Original post

I think the only difference is that the 2S may have a split rear spoiler. Im sure the "S" club will be along in a minute

POST 3Original post

I assume you are talking about 997? If so then no they have different bodies, the C4S has wider rear arches, not sure whether the track is the same there is a chance the wheels may have different offsets but someone can confirm this. Slightly off topic but I have noticed that Porsche seem to have stopped putting the rim and offset numbers either side of the valve on the newest style wheels (Gen II onwards perhaps).

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for reply's. I was talking 996. c2s seems to relate to being an auto. Is that correct. 996 c4s widebody, turbo brakes and wheels ? any other difference thanks SS

POST 5Original post

There is no C2S 996! Dont know if there was a Tiptronic S but thats a whole different subject nothing to do with shape. 996 were all narrow/same body apart from C4S and Turbo which had the same body, the Turbo having intakes on the front of the rear arches, the C4S didnt. C4S...lovely looking car and AFAIK came with lovely sounding PSE if not not std then quite common spec at least.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is PSE. I think I know. Just came to me Porsche switchable exhaust

POST 7Original post

close: Porsche Sports Exhaust, no added perfomance but sound to die for. Most are switchable, but not all. And they were not standard, but a must for a C4S

POST 8Original post

any other difference thanks SS[/quote] I'm not 100% sure but I think they also have turbo suspension.

POST 9Original post

tis confusing with 996 ad's as so many refer to tiptronic S, which is I believe the rocker system on the wheel for gear selecttion. I believe the following is a summary of the models (but if I'm wrong, someone will soon say) C4S seemed to be a marketing consolidation of early 911 "S" variants which skipped the SC, 3.2 and 964 but then reappeared on the 993 as the C4S as the designation for the wide-bodied but normally aspirated variant that did run through the 3.2 and 964 models but were known as supersport and turbo-bodied variants respectively. There was no C2S 996 but the S designation did make it through to the 997 with more power (3.8 rather than 3.6 capacity engine) and chassis tweaks on both the C2S and C4S compared with the Carrera. The C4S gets a wider body because of the 4wd and I believe, the track and wheel offsets are different. I'm not sure whether the C4S has the same suspension etc as the turbo in the 997 variant which was the case with its predecessor.

POST 10Original post

Hi, I have it on good authority that the 996 C4S shares the same stock suspension and brakes as the 996 Turbo. As stated the PSE is a must have option. All depends on what you are after. Rear wheel drive is stated by many to offer a purer drive, the way a car should be. However the 4 wheel drive offers insane driving as you can really live on the raggedy edge in all conditions and not have be a track god hehe, like me! Enjoy your search. Alan

POST 11Original post

   The 96C4S definitely has same suspension and brakes at the TT

POST 12Original post

For whats its worth Both the 996 C4S and Turbo came with four piston monobloc fixed callipers front and rear. Disc diameter 330mm front, 330mm rear, disc thickness 34mm front, 28mm rear. Both were fitted with Bosch ABS 5.7. The front suspension was McPherson struts and the rear axle was LSA multi link geometry. Like the turbo the C4S also came with the Porsche stability management control system (PSM). The Turbo 'S' :worship: however was slightly different from the above in the brakes department. This beast came with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), a six monobloc fixed callipers at the front and four piston monobloc fixed callipers at the rear. The disc diameter was 350mm front and rear. The suspension was the same on all 3 models resulting with a final car height of 1295mm.

POST 13Original post

Keeps me alive. Well, twice so far. 996 C4S = "Turbo, but without the Turbo" Slightly more aerodynamic without the air intake holes - but that doesn't quite make up for the "missing" 160 hp

POST 14Original post

JRR1967, Thats one helluva shine on your car! Which polish do you use? Or have you had the paint corrected?

POST 15Original post

Davo Unfortunately no idea - that was the state it was in when I picked it up about a month ago. Now its very, very dirty! It was serviced and "preped" at Strasse in Leeds - so either Red Line or Strasse could maybe say. It can stay dirty until it gets serviced. Jonathan
