I will be purchasing H&R Sport springs soon and i just wanted to know if anyone has had any negative or adverse effects with their springs?
Do the stock shocks hold up to the stiffer spring rates of H&
R springs
?
I think that with some instances (usually Japanese imports) that when you swap ONLY the springs that you get a bouncing affect that only coilovers will remedy.
Does the bouncing affect happen with only a spring swap on our Cayman(S)?
I had
Bilstein
PSS9's on my M3 and they were great but i hardly ever adjusted the ride height or damping. I really don't want to pay that much for suspension, but if there will be problems with the stock shocks holding up, i'm willing to splurge.
T.I.A.
Have you looked in the Cayman modifications forum. There are some H&R threads if you have not already read them.
I dont think you will have any issues. I put the H&Rs on my CS (with
PASM
)and the springs are really only slightly stiffer. No adverse effects.
I would recommend TechART springs if you are worried about trying to keep the Factory feel. They are the only springs that drop the car one inch.
Eibach
would be my next choice, they drop it approx. 1.2 inches.
porsches4ed: i thought the Techart and the
Eibach springs
are the same? i've read from somewhere that Techart uses
Eibach springs
.
you only talk about the height drop in both
eibach
and techart springs. how about H&R? anyone knows about it?
techart's spring is made by
eibach
with
eibach
: you could see that the gap between the
tires
to the body is slightly higher on the rear
but with H&R the front side gap will be higher than the rear.
so.. its your call..
slightly stiffer but drive good.
Eibach makes the springs for Techart. We carry the Champion Motorsport Springs which are made by H&R. We actually have a special on these springs now here is the link:

H&R springs lower the front by 1.4" and the rears by 1.2 inches.
I'm confused
Are the
Eibach
's sold by techART the same as the
Eibach
's sold by
Eibach
? and are they both 1" drop or 1.2" or 1.4"?
If I bought springs for a Cayman I would want to keep the drop as small as possible I think, just a tiny bit, maybe 3/4" to 1"
I've had H&R's on my (non
PASM
) CS since the day I picked up the car. 17,000kms and about 20 track days later, no incompatibility issues at all, and I am very pleased with the mod. Stiffer ride, but not problematic. The only issue was the rate at which the springs settled. It took 3 alignments over 4 months before I got the set-up right. Not a big deal.
I had the same concerns but my Eibachs are great. Ride on normal roads isn't noticably different. Eibachs lower the car 30mm - so it's now the same height as GT3 I believe. I do scape the front often on speedhumps etc. but its no big deal. splitters can be replaced and none of the scrapes are visible unless you are under the car.
On the track the car definately handles better. Feels much stiffer and more stable in fast corners, but that might be because of more track time since I had the car lowered. I also had a full track alignment when springs were put in, so much of the improvement may have come from that? My lap times have come down considerably and the car feels better - so only positive effects from the springs.
I had the dealership lower the car with the H&R kit before I took delivery, so I can't compare/contrast to the factory settings. With more than 7,000 miles on the car and many track days - I'm very satisfied.
It's low and you have to be VERY careful with the nose. ...actually it's not the nose that hits, its an air diffuser that hangs about 2" lower than the front bumper cover.
The ride is firm, but not harsh and the finished look is awesome.
