I've never looked into, but again the AWE or Milltek are going for $1,500 - $1,700 and can be installed between $100-$300.

can be bought on ebay anywhere between $600 - $1000 or from a sponsor for around $1,500 and takes under half an hour to change headunits.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone
Well, it's about time I started modifying my ride a little. I just want to see what you guys think about these prices. It is from my dealer includes parts and installation
Short Shifter $808
PCM
2.1 $3300
Tubi
exhaust
$2700
Window tint $150
It turns out to about $7500 with tax. Haven't started negotiating yet.
I think I could live with the shortshifter and
PCM
but the
exhaust
seems a bit much. I've done a search on Tubi exhausts here and didn't come up with much.
What do you think about the prices? Am I getting taken? Do you think a less expensive exahust is comparable to the Tubi?
Oh wise ones what should I do???
rrrriiiidddiiicccuuuulllooouuuusssss prices. Support the sponsors and buy a BM short shifter from bumperplugs for $200 or a factory one from Suncoast or Brandywine for about $400. Both take under 2 hours of labor to install and the factory one is simply a drop in with no modification to the shifter cage.
PCM
can be bought on ebay anywhere between $600 - $1000 or from a sponsor for around $1,500 and takes under half an hour to change headunits.
The tubi
exhaust
I've never looked into, but again the AWE or Milltek are going for $1,500 - $1,700 and can be installed between $100-$300.
The window tint doesn't sound that bad, $75 is what my local shop quoted me and they've done pretty well on my friends' cars.
- Suneet
I concur, fairly high priced. I would recommend either buying the factory sport shifter separately or the B&M unit.
PCM
you might want to leave up to the dealer because there can be some troubleshooting/code setting that you need the dealer for anyway although their price is about average for that.
Exhaust
I would run away from Tubi at that price and get either Milltek, AWE or
Fabspeed
for less even after intall labor.
hey suneet,
what sponser sells it for $1500? thats pretty good price..
I tried buying on ebay but i never could find a REAL item, all of them were fakes... and suncoast sells it for 3k+
Racer, suncoast sells the
PCM
with navigation for $3690, email them and work out a deal on just the headunit, no navigation module or wiring harnesses. They sell the nav module alone for 997's for $2,195.00, so I just did some crude math and got to $1,500...
- Suneet
SS = pricey! Buy the B&M and have it fitted aftermarket.
Tubi = That is pricey also. Somebody on here - I think it might have been Snaxster - had his purchased and installed for around $2100-2200 I believe.
Tint = thats right on for the complete car, anywhere between 125-200 seems fair.
PCM
= why spend $3300 on that of all things!!!
Tints-
The price sounds right maybe you could do a little better. You might want to check out tinting jobs they have don't on porsches because it doesn't come out 2 great around the ends
Appreciate it greatly
Thank you for all of your replies
I thought the price was way excessive but I just chalked that up to the Porsche markup that you usually see.
So on that note,
A few more questions for you experts
- On a scale of 1-10 for someone who is reasonably handy how hard is it to install the OEM short shifter?
- I have searched and read the forum about different exhausts. AWE and Miltek seem to be faves of the guys here some mixed reviews though. I really just want to hear more noise at speed not at idle. Which exhaust is best for that?
Thanks again oh great ones
BTW I want to have PCM mainly because of Satellite radio and ipod connectivity. probably gonna pass on it for now though.
I'd say the factory shifter is about a 5. I'm not very handy at all and it took me about 3 and a half hours to install to the B&M shifter, but an hour and a half of it was taking out the shifter cage and modifying it and trying to get my evo shift linkage to fit. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it under 2 for the B&M and under one and a half for the factory since you just take out the factory cage and put in a whole new cage. It takes dealers about an hour to do it and this site has articles on installing them. Without the articles, there's no way I would even attempt doing things myself. - Suneet
Thanks fellas
Decided to just get the factory shortshifter, install it myself
, and get another aftermarket
exhaust
later. I must admit I'm a little worried about the drone at idle so I'm gonna look more into that. Tint as well.
PCM
is just WAY too expensive for what I'm getting. Thanks again for all the advice. You guys just saved me a some $$ and buyers remorse!
If you are not going to be pulling out your center consol on a regular basis and you haven't done it yet, I would say paying some one to install the SS is the way to go. Most dealerships will charge you one to two hours and the headache is then not yours.
PCM
: why do you want it? Without NAV it falls under the category of "if it comes with it OK, if not all the better". If you want NAV, buy a NUVI. Better electronics, fits in your pocket, an costs less than $500 on line now for the 350. On the
exhaust
front Suneet is right on. Don't overpay here, especialy since you will get back just a few pennies on the dollar later.
SS is something you feel everytime you drive, the
exhaust
you hear everytime you drive (I kind of like the stock one myself, but to each his own).
PCM
, is a toy. Buy a PSP, it's cheaper and more entertaining. Have fun and don't forget to enjoy what you already have. With that $7k you have lined up you are 1/3 of the way to a 3.8 conversion!?
Although we like how the Tubi sounds make sure you get a test ride in a car with it first... It can be annoying in terms of the resonance in 6th gear at 70mph on the freeway...
Thanks
Thanks to all of the members of Caymanclub
I just purchased my short shifter from my dealership and did the install. WOW it really is very different.
SO I spent about $421. And it took me about 3 hours to install. (I guess I'm not as handy as I thought I was, plus I was going REALLY SLOW) I wouldn't want my ineptitude to damage my baby.
PCM 2.1 gonna wait until a better option shows itself for NAV and satellite radio.
Tint - got it from a shop who did the whole thing for $100.
Exhaust - I'm probably going to do more research on this before I make a decision, but I'm not going to the dealer that's for sure. I'm just going to desnork and see how that works out.
Thanks again you guys saved me about $6-7 K. and lots of regret
