What I did was use the fouler to extend the o2 sensor so that gets out of the exhaust gas' way and therefore not tripping the CEL.

Performed · outcome unconfirmed

On my S2000, I used a straight pipe with a sparkplug fouler to trick the second o2 sensor into thinking that there's no test pipe.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi Guys, As I understand it, there are 2 o2 sensors on each header. One before the cat and one after the cat. What are their different roles? On my S2000, I used a straight pipe with a sparkplug fouler to trick the second o2 sensor into thinking that there's no test pipe. What I did was use the fouler to extend the o2 sensor so that gets out of the exhaust gas' way and therefore not tripping the CEL. Can we do the same for our Cayman ? I was thinking about getting the Fabspeed exhaust with no cat and do the same thing (extending the o2 sensor outside of the exhaust gas' way) so that i don't trip my CEL. Does the secondary o2 sensor have any other role other than tripping the CEL for emissions purpose? Thanks

POST 2Original post

The sensors work the same on all OBDII set ups. One before the cat, one after. The computer compares the two values to make sure the catalytic converters are performing their task of reducing polution properly. Everyones interest in eliminating the catalytic converters really annoys me. Why? Because it says you couldn't care less about the environment and are willing to polute the air so you can pick up 1 or 2 horsepower.

POST 4Original post

The first sensor is used to adjust the fuel mixture for the engine. The second is to make sure the cat is working correctly. Don't know if can eliminate the second I would not eliminate the first.

POST 5Original post

As previously mentioned the first O2 sensor is needed or your car won't run right. The 2nd sensor is just to judge cat efficiency and could be turned off via reprogramming the ECU to euro specs, I don't know if this fouler/extender idea will work or not but you need to ask yourself "why" first. Fabspeed headers without cats dyno lower HP numbers than Milltek headers with cats. If your reason for going non-cats is because you believe they will produce more HP you will find that belief to be in error.
