Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

BTW when we dyno'd my EVO test we also took the air filter completely out and with a closed airbox there wasn't any HP gain, so the EVO, either filter or collar piece or whatever does provide an improvement.
Leading evidence: 'Test we also took the air filter completely out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test we also took the air filter completely out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I purchased an EVO intake for 350 from farnbacher. I took it out of the box and found I have basically purchased a flattened K & N filter with a custom fitting for the CS. The evo is advertised as having a venturi effect but Im not sure this upgrade is worth 350 dollars. Can anybody vouch for this product?
thanks
Hmmmm....... Interesting. Most folks around here swear by the Evo, but F.L. is a known expert on Cayman performance so I wouldn't expect them to send you anything but the best. If I were you, I'd give them a call and ask them the very same question you are posting here. Let us know how it turns out.
I am also not convinced by the EVO both on the cost and the Drilling Screwing and Fixing it needs for installation.
I went with the BMC High Flow - Cloth (wire reinforced) Oil impregnated, racing filter for the princely sum of $90. And a little extra for the smear of K&N Air filter Grease to aid the seal.
It is a drop in direct replacement for the factory filter and has the same characteristics of the EVO in performance allegedly.
I went with the K&N drop in filter, same as BMC in my eyes. It was $56.00USD and I believe better than the EVO because it is completely sealed off from the hot air in the engine.
This was the case with the Intakes on audis as well. APR found out that the factory filter had more GPI flow than after market filters. EXEPT for Carbonio intakes, they have a complete carbon fiber enclosure so they are sealed and the only air that gets in is from the air ducts. Just like the Porsche factory filters, only they have a heat repellant barrier and the aerodynamics of the flow on the inside of the filter enclosure is superior to the factory. Carbonio is currently working on an intake for the Cayman S. That is the only one I believe is worth paying over $350 for. But then again I am not an engineer. So don't take my advise
The EVO is also contained within the airbox and still breathing from outside. But it is a conical filter element, which is said to promote more airflow. Check out this article:

I thought the entire factory airbox came out so one side of the filter is exposed to the hot engine.
_OK I see well I still wont pay $350 for that. Filter looks about the same to me. At least it is sealed off from the engine. But.. once... again... I paid $4200.00 for a wing, I know I know to each his own
Yes I was wondering why someone didn't check the install article here before ordering the product. As for the BMC drop-in filter I don't know of anyone who has dyno'd it before or after like the EVO, the EVO has proven gains. BTW when we dyno'd my EVO test we also took the air filter completely out and with a closed airbox there wasn't any HP gain, so the EVO, either filter or collar piece or whatever does provide an improvement. Whether or not you find the improvement cost effective is a personal matter of course.
oh well...i decided to install it since some people said it seemed to have a positive result on performance...its too soon to tell since today was very warm after i installed it. the last time i drove it before the install the temperature was much colder and thus the car was naturally faster....
nicely made product incidentally...just think the price is very high.
Just make sure you don't forget to service it. A lot of people put in the oil based filters, let them get covered with dirt (which happens quicker with oil) and reduces their ability and defeats the purpose. Put a reminder in your Outlook...
thanks...i will. i used to have an oil based filter on my saab turbo. some dirt accumulation helps the filter work better, so ive heard...
happy driving!
