So, fully fitted (assuming you don't have the wiring, but want the PSE switch fitted), it is now £4000, up from £1500!!!!!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Just got my car back from Camtune after a major service (great service as always btw) and I was advised that my silencers will need replacing over the next 12 months. So, I thought this would be a good opportunity to get the PSE fitted. Unfortunately Porsche have just changed the pricing of the PSE. It has a slight part number change and the price has gone up from about £1200 up to £2800!!! So, fully fitted (assuming you don't have the wiring, but want the PSE switch fitted), it is now £4000, up from £1500!!!!! So, I'll be replacing mine like for like! Cheers.

POST 2Original post

Whats wrong with the silencers?? Do they perish? Or were they saying they just don't sound good enough

POST 4Original post

Martin in the parts dept. at OPC Cardiff has come up with the best price for a PSE for my 997, although still too much for me. It might be worth getting in touch with him before giving up on the idea. I know Martin has a user id on PistonHeads, does anyone know if he's on this forum. Cheers Pav (not doing much work today)

POST 5Original post

Fraserb did a group buy for 996 a year ago or so, he got 10 people to get them for £1500 inc VAT and fitting from Colchester OPC, inc a new 997 hire car! http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=38536&highlight=group+buy+pse He is doing it again... http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=45939&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

POST 6Original post

I have just been quoted £1606 inc VAT for the PSE from an OPC I think the OP's must be the gold plated version!

POST 7Original post

I am sure the Porsche Shop are still selling the switchable versions for £1799+VAT. Don't know what they charge for fitting though. Might be worth a call.

POST 8Original post

If that's for a 996 get it in writing before you have it fitted. As has been said, that is half the cost of the parts alone! Porsche jacked up the price of the 996 PSE earlier in the year. 997 PSEs are still at a reasonable level, and it is a very similar looking system. No point in trying to make sense of Porsche prices though.

POST 9Original post

This was for a 997, please excuse the newbie, just presumed that the 996 would be more or less the same

POST 10Original post

hi, any chance you could tell me which OPC. i might be interested in a group buy, which may bring the cost down further. thanks Pav

POST 11Original post

There's a clue in my location.... It was list price for a 997 though not for a 996

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, It's a 6 hour install job on the 996 (with wiring) and I completely trust this OPC with the pricing. I should point out that in my original post, the parts were ex-VAT and the final cost was including VAT (and only a guideline). You might still be able to source a 996 PSE at the old price, but, like I said, the item number has changed very slightly - and it seems this new one attracts the higher cost, even though they're identical. So, as Richard H says, if an OPC is quoting £1600 + vat for an install, after getting it in writing I'd bite their hand off! Cheers.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Sorry, this is old news - I just followed the earlier thread and it's been hiked up since July! Cheers.

POST 14Original post

Not as insane as the Akrapovic titanium ones for the 997, which can go to over twice that...

POST 15Original post

I heard a story once about a guy who ran a corner shop. One day he was pricing up his cans of baked beans, dreaming of his villa on the Costa when he mistakenly set the price on the price gun at 75 pence instead of 45 pence. He failed to notice this at first but had noticed how some customers had raised their eyebrows slightly or given a slight sigh when given the total for their bill - which included some baked beans. His takings were up week on week and he eventually discovered his error when restocking his beans shelf. Although the sales for beans were slightly down he'd made far more profit from his mistake: the beans were still selling! And that is exactly what I think has happened here. I've just been outside to check my 996 and as far as I can tell, the engine hasn't been moved to the front of the car, there are still two exhausts coming out of the back of it, etc, etc. So, is this a case of 'retrospective pricing' or what? I personally think it is. Porsche's fattest toe is currently dangling in the water - they'll soon bring the price down, just wait and see if I were you..... :hand:
