Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can highly recommend the route from Annecy to Grenoble to Gap to Nice - avoiding the autoroute all the way.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm about to take my 03 C4S in for a full service and am going to take out the warranty .On a recent road trip to europe i was testing out the over-ride and dropped down a gear or 2 and the engine screamed. Didnt see the rev counter , but the noise wasnt good. I flipped it straight back into full-auto. I cant have been doing more than 40 , was uphill (behind a big truck) Ive just been reading about over-revving and that Porsche will not pay out for such things as engine failure if this has occured according to their diagnostics. What is defined as over-revving? Apparently the computer in the tip wont even allow you to drop down if your speed isnt appropriate. My downshift sure didnt sound appropriate but i was hardly moving. Have i been reading too much :?: (since getting this car i find reading about mechanical things akin to self-diagnosing medical conditions on the internet. You always end up thinking you have cancer :frustrated: )

POST 2Original post

Hi Momo, Don't think you have anything to worry about. As far as I know it is not possible to over-rev a Tip. I think they rev to about 7300rpm, so it will scream a bit, but it will not be recorded as an over-rev. As you said the ecu won't allow it.

POST 3Original post

The tip red lines at 7200 rpm which is a lot more revs than you are used to listening to in automatic mode. In auto, the box will be changing up at 2000/2500, less than half 7200. Take your car out on a nice open bit of road, stick it in manual and play around with the gear changes. You can flip the buttons down 2 times and the box will only change down when the RPM allows, and it will change up regardless if you get to the red line. Open the windows as well and have a listen to the fabulous engine noise as the tip is pretty quiet from inside. Have fun :thumb: TB

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much for the reassuring responses chaps. I dont want to be denied a warranty next week because of a technical over-rev which ive heard can be classed as driver abuse (for us mere mortals i think thats reason enough to own a tip over a manual , i realise that demotes me below the alpha-males!) When it comes to performance cars i really am a momo but this forum is a great place to lurk. I travel as much as possible with the windows down for the soundtrack but London , for that matter the UK , just isnt the location to enjoy it to its fullest..... The roadtrip in France however was and the 1 speeding ticket was worth it (and the Gendarmes were polite and funny - i think they have common sense and as long as youre not driving dangerously they use it) I can highly recommend the route from Annecy to Grenoble to Gap to Nice - avoiding the autoroute all the way. Simply awesome. Awesome.

POST 5Original post

I had a funny encounter with the Gendarmes, last year. They stopped me due to some problems with the plate but then it ended in a very nice talk because the most graduated officer loved 911s and started asking questions about the cost, where I got it and all that stuff. Who doesn't love 911s ?

POST 6Original post

Hi I think the only way to over rev a Tip is in neutral or park and then just rev it. Also AFAIK there are two levels of rev limits logged, normal red line limiter and one higher than that. Berni

POST 7Original post

No - that won't do it. It will just hit the rev limiter.
