Then switch off(leave the header cap off) and let the thing cool back down for at least an hour(cap still off).....then top-up and run the engine again until the temp gauge just starts to rise.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When you refill the system you should use the red long life anti-freeze. You can keep topping the system up with the engine running and lightly rev the engine to help getting the water through. I would suggest leaving off the front PU untill you are sure that the rads are bled. You can do this by simply slackening off the hoses as they attach to the rads. Remember to secure the hoses properly when the job is done. Be careful that you don't scald yourself as the system heats up and the pressure increases in the system as superheated steam can cause first degree burns.

"Wet" the inside of the replacement rads before fitting (shake to make sure surface bubbles are released).
Fill to max (trial fill), rev engine for a minute, if necessary refill. Drive round block (1 mile etc) reving normally, but through range, recheck on level ground and refill as necessary.
Repeat until no more level drops.
As mentioned, only use red/pink coolant.
+ 1 to filling up the rads but be warned that some have had issues trying to bleed the system and an air-lock can be a big problem.
After you first add the coolant slowly add/top-up as much as you can until the gauge just starts to rise. Then switch off(leave the header cap off) and let the thing cool back down for at least an hour(cap still off).....then top-up and run the engine again until the temp gauge just starts to rise. Then let it cool back down again(cap still off at this point too)
After it cools down top-up again then put the cap back on and let it tick over and build pressure until the gauge just starts to rise then run it to full temp(short drive) keeping the revs under 3k
Bring it back, park it and let it cool down completely. Then after 1-2 hours re-top up if required.
You should have a full system with no air-locks. but keep an eye on it(always check when cool....never when hot)
This job usually goes a wry when people rush it. It can take 1 to 2 days to get all the air out a 911's cooling system that has been completely drained.
If you still have issues(usually you can hear the creak/gurgle of an airlock), then take it to the OPC and get them to re-bleed it.
...also check the rad mounting bracket(s) as they can turn to dust when in working on the rads.
If anything looks worn(ie hoses/pipes) then don't take any chances...just swap them out when you are in there.
You should be able to get nearly all of it out as this is one of the lowest points of the car. I suppose you could jack up the rear end of the car to be sure. You can get the fluid from OPC, but I'd just get one that's approved by VW as let's face it, Porsche don't make anti-freeze, choice is yours though! GSF sell it and probably Halfrauds.
The mixture ratio is on the bottle.
