Just a quick update, checked the brakes to make sure they were not stuck on slightly and the were fine so took it out for a run and all was ok, I assume it was just the corrosion.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guy, I have a 03 C4s, had been parked in the garage for around 4 weeks, took it out for spin and there was the usual grinding at first as I got rid of the rust on the discs which soon cleared up. After driving a while i was stopped in traffic and noticed smoke from the front brakes, didnt think i was driving that hard took it easy home there was still a little when stopped at home but soon cleard. Question is was this ok or do I need to check things out?

POST 2Original post

Was it definitely smoke or possible steam? With the heat build up and wet roads, its certainly isnt unheard of... You could check the bearing/bushes to see if they are worn/oily - it may relate to that... :?:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looked more like smoke than steam

POST 4Original post

You'd be certain it was brake smoke by the smell. Was it extremely pungent? L

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No didnt really smell that bad, I wasnt really driving that hard to give the brakes that hard of a time, just wondered if it was because it hadnt been used in a few weeks.

POST 6Original post

smoking brakes make sure the calipers have not corroded around the pistons and the brakes are not binding it will wreck the discs and pads if they are. Jack the car up and make sure all the wheels turn freely, if not you will need to get it looked t.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a quick update, checked the brakes to make sure they were not stuck on slightly and the were fine so took it out for a run and all was ok, I assume it was just the corrosion. Is anything you can do to avoid rusty disc's if the car is parked up over the winter?

POST 8Original post

Drive it! It's a lot better for the car to be driven even if its once a week for just half an hour to warm things up and get things pumping correctly.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm strugging to get a dry day when I'm not working ATM, is it just being over protective thinking I dont want to take it out when its wet and the roads are covered in excess salt etc?

POST 10Original post

Yes, I drive mine every day and I don't get any of these silly little annoying problems..... I only get big expensive ones due to proper wear & tear 8) TB
